i raced karts for several years and made it just short of F3. never got to try an F3 car, but i must say that of all the kinds of cars i've driven, nothing came close to the rush of a kart. it is simply the purest driving experience!
i didn't pursue a racing career. there are better odds of winning the lotto than there are of making it to F1. keep in mind that there are thousands of race drivers in the world, and yet there are only maybe 3 open slots for newcomers, or even less, each year.
having said that, there are many other forms of racing, from touring cars, to sports cars and endurance racing, rallying, etc. to be able to make it a profession in any of those fields is damned good enough, i think. being paid a lot to do something you love? nothing beats that!
i've stayed on the safe side tho. pursue a normal career and just race as a hobby. good enough for me...

Unless I missed something but I didn't pick up on racism there. Personally, I think it's downright jealousy, these so called big drivers who've been doing their thing on the F1 circuit are feeling the heat of the new guy who is too confident for a newcomer.
As the article states that he is constantly sought by the media which makes the others nasty and very envious.
Now, I'm not saying there's no racism against Lewis but on the article it didn't come up for me (if it was there then it was very subtle) . There are times when I see and feel that his race does play a role in certain instances.

Racism, is none too difficult to detect in relation to Spaniards and ANY sport these days, Plus the FIA is governed by someone who has, shall we say, fascist connections.

Lewis Hamilton expected to be confronted today by fellow drivers during their traditional Friday meeting, with a few having previously voiced negative opinions regarding a few of his driving maneuvers.
As it turns out, the Shanghai drivers' briefing was apparently business as usual, although Hamilton conceded afterwards that he knows he is not popular among his peers.
"It's a shame they all think that way but my driving is why I'm here and why I'm leading the championship so I'm not disappointed with the way I drive," he said.
"If other people want to expend their energy thinking about it, that's for them."
The McLaren driver believes it is par for the course for World Champion contenders to take stick from their opponents.
"I look at previous World Champions and previous seasons, and a lot of people that have been at the front have had these kind of situations, it's normal," he said.
As for Bernie Ecclestone, the 77-year-old F1 chief executive told Auto Motor und Sport that Lewis Hamilton is "good for business."
He also knows why the championship leader is not popular among his peers: "Out of the car he is a little bit arrogant."
"I think he has slightly too high an opinion of himself and that irritates the other drivers," Ecclestone added.
