Im new to all this firmware update stuff, i need some help. I have just got a K700i on Orange. I see there is a firmware update. I asked at the shop they told me some porkies then i called Sony they also told me some news. The problem seems to be that im a Mac user. (0SX 10.3v) When i bought the phone they said i will have no trouble with mac. I see on some forums that they have got the iSync to work via Bluetooth. So some compatability. I have told that i can not update from the Sony Ericsson site as it`s PC only. Does this make any sence to anyone........? Please help. im currenlty using R2C001
I like the phone and im not too fussed about sync but i would like the firmware update. I cant see any way to get it without sending my phone back to Sony to be flashed. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers bazaray.

R2AA003 has been removed due to some problems with communication between mobile (K700/K500) and PC with this version... a new version is said to be released in week 43

Week 43 is this week! How sure are you sure about that?
Also, do you have any further details as to the problems of R2AA - i.e. whether the comms problem is over IR, Bluetooth, USB or a combination of all of them!?

@ mwarner
There is no problem with bluetooth on R2AA if that helps. Its still stable and fast

I'd imagine it's a problem with cable-based connections and i'll try my DSS-20 out if I get the chance.

Hey all,
My apologies if I'm asking totally dumb questions here... I've not had my K700 long, and I've only just signed up here (although I've tried to read some relevant posts).
I recently got a K700i from Orange and like many others, I have one with the R2C Firmware, I've been checking this thread out and I've decided to grab a DSS-20/25 and give the update a go in the hope of getting R2L or similar as a few of the improvements listed are quite attractive to me.
My main question is regarding MP3s as ringtones, at present I can do this, but I noticed that a couple of firmware revisions don't...
--------------------------------------------
R2V001
- Vodaphone version of R2L (UK)
- MP3s can now be used as ringtones so long as they have digital rights management, e.g. repackaged using Sony Ericsson's DRM Packager Tool.
R2N001
- Vodaphone version of R2L (Netherlands)
- Still unable to use MP3s as ringtones, whether they have DRM or not.
--------------------------------------------
...Is that lack of MP3 ringtone support limited to Voda-branded handsets only, or others, and in earlier firmwares too? I don't want to lose the MP3 ringtone support.
My other question, is regarding warranty, does anyone know how likely Orange are to mess me about if I have problems with the phone down the line and they notice I upgraded the software somehow? I know that sounds a little paranoid, but I'm asking more out of curiosity - I was perfectly willing to add a good few bugs to a cr***y Moto V600 they somehow managed to give me once just to get SMS Delivery Reports!
Once again, apologies if I'm asking dumb or repeat questions,
Thanks and regards,
Rob.

@fact if you upgrade at am authorised service centre, it will not void your warranty, and is free

Emma2 is the server Sony Ericsson service points uses to download new firmware versions. It is _not_ open to the public. You need username and password as well as a hardware dongle to get access.
