why dont SE emulate Samsung and make little cute phone like E600 or E800 but put in the tech of K700.

with a smallish clam, it is easier to market to the one-half buying population who prefer beauty over brain (and more easily part with their money) than say the other half who are more meticulous when buying.

I suppose SE might be considered a 'masculine' brand, certainly in terms of the 'geek factor'. If one looks at the membership of Esato one would find it to be predominantly male, but then again this is perhaps more to do with a predominant male interest in technology in general, rather than a specific male interest in SE.

@scotsboyuk:

I agree with u SE is a more 'masculine' brand. Similar for Nokia or Siemens (all european). Not sure whether it is due to culture of gender equality (i.e. not politically correct for a design to even hint otherwise)

of course in asia it is very different esp in Korea and Japan where the other half is seen as ... u know what i mean.

so maybe that's why it has been smooth sailing for samsung so far. their phone in terms of tech is way behind SE or Nokia.

Samsung are very popular with the ladies, perhaps women don't care about the lack of Bluetooth. Am I correct in thinking that Bluetooth wasn't widely available in Japan until fairly recently?

One edge Nokia has it embedded in me:

whenever I hold on a Nokia phone (of cuz not the really cheap ones)
I would say to myself, "This is what a phone should feel like!"

I never get this from any other brands despite I am a SE fan.

Nokia had created the ideal phone image in a lot of people and it will stay that way for a while.

@DevilHell

That is true to a certain degree, when a lot of people think of a mobile phone they no doubt think of a Nokia. Changing that sort of brand awareness is extremely difficult e.g. one usually thinks of Coca Cola when someone asks for coke, Pepsi still hasn't been able to shake this image.

@scotsboyuk:

once when people think about mobile phone, they thought of ericsson.

i think people's idea of of a cell phone will never be the same again. It no longer about just making call anymore.

Everyone seems to be wanting to buy a phone with camera. And just down the road MP3, video-rec, personal assistant, cash chip, tv-receiver and so-on.

Isn't it natural for handsets to evolve?

I remember the time when to have a colour screen was a must have, it was for me anyway!!

What other way is there for handsets to evolve?

I think there will always be a market for a basic handset but it is the drive to add more features, more communication tools, in to a smaller, more usuable handset with the most instinctive UI that drives a company forward.

That is what they spend there R&D budget on, isn't it?

Yes, good points all, but the topic is about whether have the edge over nokia, not general technological advances

I can't imagine SE ever having the edge over Blokia . I definitely see SE as more techy (even geeky), having more discerning buyers, which is why some might view it as more masculine. I would never go for a handset based on looks alone. It would also have to have 'brains'. This message was posted from a T610
