SEUS says that I have the latest firmware. Is your 038 better?
This this is the best one I took from a far distance:

The pic is taken with very much adjustments on exposure compensation. That makes the pic much darker than reality and looks better. More "untrue" but a nicer look. -1,7 is very much
You can adjust this easy with ( sun+/-) if i remember correctly itīs done with the navigation key. Your flipflop pic would look just as great but very very dark with this setting.

about EV....i use auto(0.0) on 99% of my pictures. (and like Mr.julius says, the photo-technique itself is the main thing to get good quality)
@zide..........you dont "need" full sunshine to get good pictures, often a bit cloudy gives best colours,
especially in close up.... (just a tip

).
