pocket now z1 vs s4:

summer up their review:

battery performance are better than the s4 (against what gsmarena said)
screen is not very good (against what gsmarena said)
Camera is on par with the s4 in daylight, better in low light
they also say the camera has a problem on the extreme right side where the details will wash out, i hope it is a software issue.

other than that it is a little biased in my opnion (as in general with pocketnow, as they always prefer the sammy), when samsung have an advantage they will say it loud and clear, when the z1 have an advantage, they will start saying it depends on what you need... it was always like that with pocket now and sony vs samsung products, if you want some proofs check some of their XPERIA Z reviews.

T.B.H the only site i truly trust, is android authority, they are really honest.

@ascariss no it's not true, it have hdr, you just need to shot in 8 mp mode.

GSMArena also have the right side washout - though iirc, they're using a preproduction unit - not the final one.

Samsung is well-know for hiring people trolling other brands at different cellphone forums in China. The trolls spend a lot of time saying bad things about other brands even without any solid evidences.

Ive started to see the potential paid-trolls here.

If that is directed towards me then I take offense to this. I'm a real person. with a family here in China working as a teacher who wants a decent product that lives up to its advertisement. I don't see many others here posting from China and have ordered my Z1 from handtech despite the excessive noise and other photo issues I saw and hope are just short-lasting. As proof of such here is my tracking number for Royal mail for my z1 from Handtech RQ444534415GB.

i assume they also have used a preproduction unit.
at the end, in the retail version it looks like:

the display is awesome, viewing angles are decent
camera is awesome, good low light performance for a cameraphone

on xda some users are reporting bad viewing angles screens, while other are reporting better screens.
one users has reported that he has the same camera problem as with the gsmarena unit...

that's interesting.. quality control ??
i guess we should wait a bit, for the first batch. anyway next week it should arrive here in italy, i will go to the store, and tell you guys how it is in terms of screen and camera.

@sponse If I remember, though I'm not saying this is true and I don't remember who said it (I think DACHA, bad memory ), that Sony is using the old SE supply chain for its mobile display and that Sony is trying to dissolve the supply chain that's why there are Z1s with bad display (same VA panel from Z and ZL). Hopefully, Z1 would be the last to have a bad display. As for the tablets and the laptops, they use Sony's own supply chain which is probably why those have good screens like the ZU.

No trolling here, but those I've only read about are really probable IMO.

^There is no concrete evidence to know whether Triluminos is implemented differently than Triluminos for mobile. We can only speculate based on OFFICIAL documentation. By official documentation, I mean technology explanations directly from Sony, a Sony Official, or QD Vision (The company who sony acquired the quantum dot tech from).

Here's what we know (based on what I understand):

Triluminos works using a blue LED vs. a white LED in conventional LCD screens. It converts a portion of the blue LED light into deep red and green light, creating tri-chromatic (red, green and blue) white light, which then gets coupled into the light guide. The use of this tri-chromatic white light composed of highly saturated colors improves color gamut of the LCD from about 60-70 percent of the NTSC standard to 100 percent, making a brilliant, colorful image. (Source QDvision.com) clearly, this is a hardware enhancement

Triluminos for Mobile claims the same results as triluminos, but there is nothing that I have found that explains exactly how this work. However, if you read QDvision's explanation, it says it can be used "for display backlight units (BLUs) used in products including mobile devices." It also says that the technology uses nanocrystals which are "inherently efficient light emitters." As I posted pages and pages ago, there is some hint to how Triluminos for Mobile works. Sony's display engineer stated "Replicating the way they work together on mobile, as they do in BRAVIA TVs was tough. It involved a back-and-forth process of hardware modification and software parameter change; lots of meticulous planning and work. But, we believe that’s paid off in the experience created." (Source)

Based on this information, I speculate the following. Triluminos for Mobile does involve hardware modification. I do not believe it would be economical, practical, or feasible, for Sony to take old stock of Z/ZL LCD panels and modify each one to put in a new Z1. It'd be cheaper and much more efficient to simply set the manufacturing standards for a new Z1 panel and move forward. That is not to say there won't be differences in supply chains. Based on user experiences, reviews, etc.. it seems there is some disparity in the quality of a panel based on the supply chain. That being said, others here have mentioned that other vendors (apple, samsung) have similar issues from different suppliers. The main point here is that Sony is unlikely using old stock. However, there may be quality control issues from the various suppliers. Hopefully, it is a very small percentage of users of all Z1's sold (obviously no quality control is 100% perfect) and if it turns out to be a bigger problem, I sincerely hope Sony will step up and offer to replace the screens of any user who is unhappy with their screen for free.

Sorry for the long post!
