Apologies, I don't like going off topic, but I felt the need to say this....

Yet again, people are disappointed. This happens every time when inaccurate rumored specs are thrown around, people believe them and get all excited. Then the announcement comes..... Kind of strange this is the case here again when;

1. The specs are pretty much identical to the specs which were rumored the most out of any and;
2. This, for now, is a Japan only release. We haven't had anything confirmed for the rest of the world.

Onto the bezels discussion. This is such a moot point. Get over it people. Unfortunately it's the world we live in today, we complain over such small things. Concentrate your efforts on things that actually matter.

And finally, I am trying to work out why people are complaining about the half yearly cycle? I mean, its not like the specs are staying the same. The main components are being upgraded to be current and inline with other flagships. If nothing was being upgraded, then definitely, you have a right to be peeved.... And sure, the design has not changed much, but, what are you expecting exactly? A Snapdragon 820 CPU which isn't even ready yet?

Now, let's get back to the rumors....

Sorry for being such a jerk this morning guys, I just went out to cool my head down a little bit
I guess I was overreacting about this news. I have been planning to upgrade my Android phone for a while, but I can't hardly imagine myself buying a SS or HTC One.

I'm not saying that this Japanese Z4 is bad, but it makes me feel like they will end up with another 6 month cycles again.

Whenever I recommend my friends a Sony flagship, their responses were like .... "another new Z?". It make me quite sad since they could not recognize the differences with these flagships....

I hope they should just adopt 1 year cycle, maybe:
- Flagship at IFA
- Mini Flagship at CES
- Phablet at MWC

This is just my opinion anyway. Cheers

I don't know what all of you were expecting from Sony.The specs of z4 were known for months(sp810,32GB,same design and either 1080p or 2K display).Z4 was always meant to be a minor update and not a major one.In my opinion,it holds well against competition,(2nd best processor on the market,only high-end smartphone with ip68,microsd slot,great battery,etc),and will provide good sales until Q4 releases.

This forum makes me laugh. People come here for rumours about future products and either they're correct, in which case there's disappointed because the specs have been seen for some time ahead of release and they seem old-hat at release, or they're vague and everyone starts posting insane wish-lists, in which case there's disappointed at release OK, there is a third possibility, you get a pleasant surprise at release, but given the crazy expectations that's a bit unlikely.

As for the 6-month release cycle, I really don't see the problem (more so than the very slightly tongue-in-cheek comment above). It means that there's always something current/cutting edge available should you want it, with the proviso that the steps between generations are obviously going to be smaller as releases come more often. Don't like it ? Buy every other one. What's the problem ? Just hurt feelings that you don't have the "latest one" because you're not buying every six months ? Surely you'd rather have the option to buy something bang up-to-date when you're ready to buy ?

Whether or not this happens internationally, I cannot say. However, the Japanese market at the very least expects a flagship to be refreshed every 6 months, rather than every year. Or at least that is what has been implied by the market these last few years.

The Japanese Z4 may well just be Sony trying to keep up in the Japanese market which demands more regular updates. Internationally, they could be going for the typical 12 month refresh cycle.

Its hard to understand what the specifics of the situation is, from the outside.

Also, the top and bottom bezel you were complaining about earlier. Well in order to house the dual front-facing speakers, that space MUST exist. Otherwise where the bloody hell else would you put them? I certainly don't want Sony to return to the days of the rear-facing or downward firing single speakers.

And as for King-James. Its hard for something to look thicker when it is factually thinner. The Z4J (J standing for Japanese, cause that's what it is right now) is 6.9mm thick, where the Z3 was 7.3mm thick. Doesn't matter which way you slice it, the Z4J is thinner.

Q: Is this model going to be released in the global market?
A: We are planning to release this model in a part of the global market. We'll make another announcement when details are fixed.

@xperiazultra
Not kind of, and no "z" and no "5" anymore. sony just confirmed it today:
"This product (z4) is a product aimed at completing the form of Xperia Z series".
http://www.sonymobile.co.jp/c[....]try/2015/0420_1_xperia_z4.html
so say good bye to z series and ob and expect a new product family at ifa.
this actually make z4 more special.
