Ericsson presents 3D maps on the Xperia X10

Ericsson Labs has introduced a new API, called 3D Landscape. Along with it, they have also posted a short video demonstration, which really managed to get us excited about the new technology and its possible application in the future. In short, 3D Landscape is like Google Maps, but in full 3D! All the buildings and objects on the satellite map are in 3D, which actually looks very cool. And it runs pretty smooth too, judging by what we see on the video, where 3D Landscape is demoed on a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, although the developer says that the software is also available for Java environment. For now, the SDK libraries released by Ericsson Labs include 3D maps for Stockholm, but more are on the way. It would be too cool to see such technology used in a GPS navigation app, but we guess all is in the hands of devs now.

Brilliant, thanks for posting. Now we have to hope our native cities will be included soon.

Sorry, but after using Satio and it's UI I'm very much looking forward to using SE's Android. We should be now hoping to move away from having to constantly update our phones over and over again in order to get them working normally, no matter who is selling them.

S60v5 is stable?? Oh please...

My Nokia 5800 is great not a single issue! very very stable, no crashes, no locking up, the best BT to PC connectivity I have EVER used. And I can choose what connection I want for every application!
After two years my SE W960 still does not connect to my PC by BT and has cable sync issues despite all the help the SE help desk can provide!

Have you ever used S60v5?

Oh look at that...another lucky 5800 (60v5) user and yes I did owned the 5800 before.

The camera factor isnt marginal by any means. The pic quality is leaps and bounds better than the ones provided by similar offerings. It is here that X10 will trump its competitors when given a choice. The Nexus One is not out globally. The X10 in all probability shall have a global launch which compensates for the time the Nexus has been on shelves. The Nokia N900 isnt out in the Uk yet.

Whatever the problem with Nexus One, it is software related and can be fixed by an update.

To tell you frankly, I can't really get what your point is. Everyone wants a stable device but if it does not have much features it is boring. It's like why don't I just buy a notebook.

It HAS most of the features that 2.0/2.1 is bringing and has a better media experience than them. Why is it so hard for you to grasp this SIMPLE concept?

It is you who DOES NOT UNDERSTAND MY POST. There is not so big about the some features of 2.0 and 2.1 that the X10 already has despite of it is currently running on 1.6, because getting those features just needs software update.

About the media experience, again it is nothing that special aside from the infinity button. The rest is just UI layer to make it pretty. Of course, it is good but I do not consider it as a selling point.

My main point is for SE to step out of their shell and show how good the devices they make in and out.

The version of Android won't mean much unless something is done to utilise it. If you're expecting multi touch on everything for example, it won't be the case unless the appropriate changes are made i.e. would have to put the support on their gallery etc. Yes, you do get the generic upgrade stuff but I would say that the phone working from the box with minimal issues is most important. Software can be updated and modified, hardware on the other hand cannot so the X10 has the upper hand. Nexus One is having a few hardware and design issues which can only help the X10.
