here are the real benchmarks...
http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/
SGX540 dominates....
and there is Tegra 250 based netbook...which is slower than galaxy phones...
i thought tegra 2 had the fastest GPU...
hmm...what that mean?
i`m interested about other benchmark apps...

Omap 4 is outdated?

I don't think so. The heart of the platform is also a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 chip.
check the tegra 2 specs out:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra_250.html
and check the Ti omap 4430 and 4440 specs out:
http://focus.ti.com/general/d[....]gationId=12843&contentId=53243
The ti 4440 chip operates at 1+ GHz
The tegra 2 operates at
up to 1GHz
The specs are more or less the same (140h music playback, multiscreen support, higher screen resolution support, full HD capture). what is so outdated in Ti 4440 or 4430 that is not in tegra 2 platform???
And saying that tegra 2 is delivering 5x 3D graphics performance of previous generation of smartphone doesn't mean anything (what generation of smartphone are we talking about? and who is your source for the 5x graphics performance? in the official nvidia specs sheet they are only talking about 2x 3D graphic performance of
previous tegra chip ).

@XPHCTOC
GPU, which is the most important part in SoC...
better GPU means better overall performance in every aspect...

Actually, it doesn't matter what GPU is used as the OS doesn't even utilize it. Remember, the only mobile OSes that use GPU acceleration are iOS, Symbian^3, and the upcoming MeeGo. Games of course use the GPU to its potential, but not the OS.

Agree (don't forget webOS

edit: I mean the upcoming webOS versions )

smooth animations, scrolling/pinchzoom, user interface, etc.... many thing depends on GPU...
Galaxy S has better overall performance than Desire/EVO/X10 because of better GPU

Uhhh, that depends upon the CPU and not the GPU. Why do you think Android needs a lot of GHz instead of GPU? Like I said, the OS doesn't use the GPU at all, hence why no GPU acceleration. The custom skins from OEMs do utilize the GPU if I'm not mistaken, but the OS in general doesn't. Read up on the docs.
A lot of things can affect performance. Samsung Hummingbird's SoC > TI OMAP 3's Processor SoC. Overall Samsung's Hummingbird performs way better clock per clock. Care to compare the Samsung Galaxy S to Nokia's N8 GPU? Now that's GPU acceleration throughout the OS.

@makebelieve- Oops you are wrong. Samsung's Gaaxy on stock firmware is a piece of crap.Slow, laggy and unresponsive. More than the hardware, its how you code the software to complement the hardware that matters. IMO SE have done that pretty well. No slowdowns whatsoever and it works as advertised. No lag fixes, GPS glooms or WIFI disconnections a part and parcel of the package.

No No

is not using SUPER AMOLED. That is Samsung's technology. SONY will be using OLED technology. Not sure about the technical aspects of the resolution.
Super amoled is a marketing gimmick name...it just mean the AMOLED screen and touch panel get laminated together.
this is not something unique...just that samsung have the process to do it.
Amoled is part of OLED....since OLED have passive and active matrix just like those olden days when we have Active and passive matrix LCD screen.
any company want to use Samsung's Super amoled will need to pay some price on royalty if this is patented by Samsung.
if Samsung put it as a technology exclusive for themselves...then even if you want to pay, they won't sell
