Depends on who you ask, it seems. Load- times for programs are slower, because of the processor. And you'd expect context- shifts to be a bit slower, too, but I can't tell if they are.
Of course, then it's the message- application. Which tries to pull up every kind of resource from the phone before getting into the compose- window. And which will have a (deliberately programmed) stop on the menu when you try to "show messages", even if it's just one. And that makes it feel sluggish beyond belief.
But for everything else, since you can have every program you have open at all times.. it's not a problem. I.e., in UIQ you'd worry about battery and connections out you don't know about. On S60 and wm you could be worrying more about whether any programs are going to hang the phone (which of course can happen on UIQ as well. But not "randomly", or "only after I've been fiddling a whole lot with the phone" - which somehow is fine for a lot of users..).
Still.. I think that what makes a lot of people very unhappy about UIQ is that the speed isn't consistent. Or that it's quick some places, and waits and flashes a few seconds elsewhere. s60 is different that way - through the menus, you have the same nokia instant before something happens (without that having much to do with how "fast" the framework is). But that obviously agrees with some people, that the menus are more polished, more than the UIQ "..the menu is a program, so the first time you open it, it takes three seconds, the next time it takes less than one", kind of thing. Not that SE's idea to run a lookup on the menu every time you opened it helped much (was changed in the latest p1 firmware, after being carried over from the m600...)
But I'm still impressed by how peple manage to figure out that UIQ is so incredibly slow compared to everything else. Imo, most of that would never be mentioned if just one UIQ device had a 600 Mhz processor that would offset any of the bad programming solutions (like on the other line- ups). Then you'd have reviewers going (to paraphrase an n70 review I read) "oh, it's not /slow/, look at the other phones, the UI is really slick - just not on /this/ phone - but that's not a minus, because the UI is not /slow/", etc..

Sure. But the SE "walkman animations" thing, and the bundled message- application, as well as some other pre- installed apps, are not well programmed or scaled for lower speeds than what the emulator runs on..

Got it 2 months now.
And my phone has never had a crash.
I think it's pretty fast too, as long if you keep the right things running in the background (see task manager)

No, I don't think it supports .gif images as wallapper.

The W960 doesn't support animated wallpapers. I've had my W960 since February and so far its not crashed or let me down. If I have any complaint its that the battery cover has gone squeaky

I swapped out the w960i battery for the p1i battery to overcome the squeak and for the extra juice.

Does it fit?
Otherwise I might buy one too.
And how's the battery life with the p1i battery?
