I don't think it can be true ! If is true, Vodacom will kill them self ! There will be chaps like me out there who will use to connect to the net thru the cellphone while the phone is on the net and download huge amounts of data for days on end.I remember to have done this once before on mtn last year sometimes.Mtn bloked the usual cellmodem so most of the chaps could'nt do it,but the S60 operating system (which I know it quite well - C++) allowed me to make a bluetooth network between all my bluetooth enabled devices.Whith such a configuration I was able to use a DNS server of my own and not mtn's (which only allowed wap site address) unfortunatelly the speed got slower and slower and eventualy mtn stopped free gprs all together :-( I really hope you are right and the first Vodacom branded S60 cell on the market will be mine ;-)

I just read on mobileafrica.net that
MTN is launching 3G, today. Now, according to the news, Mtn prefers to launch SEAMLESS and effective communication. Thus, it first rolled out EDGE in November last year and now 3G. Unlike Vodacom, making noise about being the first 3G in SA, MTN 3G subscribers have access to EDGE and GPRS where 3G is not available. What do you think about this?

I had a choice betw RZR and replacement 6600 a while back (brought in frm Uzbekistan or somewhere exotic) and i chose 2 stay wth Nokia. Those mobiles do look good tho... As for EDGE, 3G, VODALIVE, etc, my view is to let them sort it out amongst themselves. Ultimately we'll end up wth better deals than we currently have.

@A1, 1stly vodacom users can also use GPRS when out of 3G.
>> I think Vodacom saved the money on EDGE masts, and used it on the 3G masts >> which means more 3G most ... aint i right?
>> You need a EDGE mobile to access EDGE. Aaaaand if you could choose a 3G mobile above an EDGE mobile ... you would rather go for the 3G one. ((and i know there's 3G/EDGE/GPRS mobiles ... but going to die sometime))
Point form: (Easy and clearly)
1) Most upcoming mobile is just going to stick to 3G.
2) Most 3G mobiles now available doesn't support EDGE.
3) Well if your 3G mobile does support EDGE, and you drop out of a 3G area into an EDGE are, you can't make Video Calls/ if you were busy with one, it would disconnect.
4) 3.5G and 4G is on their way... then byebye EDGE mobiles
5) Through which way would you connect? EDGE or 3G? ... I would take 3G
6) Vodacom has Vodafone on their side... which means Vodafone can help Vodacom make desicions on stuff Vodafone did wrong in the past.
Oh... yep.. if you have a Vodafone Live! mobile you can connect for free to VLive! or and other pages(via Vlive! settings though)
And you don't have to bye a R29 Value Pack(every month) to access VLive! for free, where did you people come up with that.

Like I said you can't access content on the portal for free... besides that point I've noticed the 3G reception at my office actually in most of Cape Town quite patchy except near the airport...I'm trying to connect to Esato via 3G with the Vlive! settings but keep getting an error message.

@sIssIs, it is very possible to make a video call on edge, the only thing is your picture quality is not that good and you will never drop the call when moving from 3g to edge as youve mentioned, and also edge and 3g is not only about data, your speech quality and drop call rate is far better on any network thats running gprs\edge\3g.........

Brix... isn't it obvious that content must be charged? On MTNLoaded it's charged, on ANY like VLive! it's charged. And VLive! gives you the headlines on news, sports, etc. free. When u browse through the songs, etc. it's free. What more would you want from Vlive! ? MTNLoaded and Exactmobile, etc. isn't even 80% close to what Vodafone Live! Offer, and functionality. Again what more would you want? Sorry .. I said this calm... just wanted to inform you ALL. Thats all.

@slssls: "Free" is just a bloody red herring coz most people would assume that they wouldn't have to pay for anything one Vodafone Live.
But that's besides the point...as much as the V800 is a lovely phone sans the horrble alterations I've unfortunately not been sold on Vodafone Live.
Like I said earlier they need to work on 3G reception first before touting a service and this includes MTN and anyone who wants to hype a service that's clearly not available in many areas.
Vodafone Live has lots of content and that's what counts in it's favour, yes it beats MTNloaded hands down...no disputing there but and this is a BIG one the issue of branding handsets and removing some features like "My Friends" is just not on.
That's my opinion and I'm expecting to be stoned by all the Vodacom zealouts on the thread.

I still think the Vodafone Branded mobile's menu's are:
(1) easier and (2) much more exciting/cool looking.
Well... "My friends" isn't going to stop me from buying the Best 3G Mobile of 2005, even other stupid little thing won't either. I just think Vodafone took off what most people don't use.

Are you on crack? Most people who bought the V800 actually want to flash the firmware to that of the Z800 and many people want to use My Friends. And no the Vodafone Live menu icons ain't pretty compared to the original SE icons.
