Let's face it, it's Sony's way of getting out of supporting their devices, blame it on the cpu for sub standard updates and then discontinue support forcing people to upgrade or buy another phone if they want the latest android experience

So it's the CPU then cos it's outdated?? So even if it has dual core and 1 gig ram it's not gonna run JB?? Or did I read your post wrong?? Bloody Sony

Yep. I'm not 100% sure whether this information is 100% correct, but I remember someone here blamed Qualcomm for not releasing JB 4.2 drivers for S3 processors. Unfortunately I can't find the exact statement, but I was shocked when I read it. This situation is very similar to last year's case when HTC Desire C with its 600mhz processor and Sense UI was running ICS smoother than Arc S with its 1.4ghz processor.

But Sony has made the Xperia E with Jelly Bean and an S1 processor. And the S1 based Xperia J will also be updated to JB

That's right, but Xperia E and J use MSM7227A - S1 processor, released in Q4 2011, while Xperia S uses MSM8260 - S3 processor, released in Q3 2010. So the one used in Xperia S is much older. And Qualcomm doesn't support it anymore.

EDIT: Galaxy S2 Skyrocket uses APQ8060, S3 processor, released in Q2 2011, much newer than the one used in Xperia S. So its Sony's fault for releasing XS with outdated processor.

Wow! I always said Xperia S had dated hardware but I had no idea how badly, so what does this mean? Have Sony had to create their own drivers from scratch?

Not sure about 4.1 JB, but if they want to update it to 4.2, they'll have to.
