Back to the phone stuff.
The 3.2mp Nokia 3600 is now available here, costing £99.95 (approx R1600 with the current exchange rate).

I've picked up on something on my P1, actually, it's been the case after a few days of me having it. The signal fluctuates and does affect the call quality. My V8 and W890i don't suffer from that so it rules out the network (Vodacom).
Only if jmash was frequent enough to tell me how his is doing.
@wanqs
It's a long shot seeing that it is unlikely to be a network issue but how's yours?

I have the same problem (or used to) with signal... At home, normally i have 2-3 bars signal, fluctuating a lot, and IF i get 3G it hovers between 1 bar and no network... that is the case on my Nokia N90, 9500, sony K700, V600 and M600... On the HTC TyTN i have a steady 2-3bar 3G signal at all times...
I dont know much about how the radios work in phones, BUT could it be that the radio are just worse at picking up the signal? Or can certain phones function better with lower signal strength?

What's funny is that my P910i, W890 and the V8 are stable at 5 bars when at home and they don't even change. I had put my P910i back in its box but took it out to test and it is better than the P1 in that regard. By the way, I live 300 meters away from a vodacom tower.
I wouldn't have much of a problem if the call quality wasn't affected but it is.
My P1 behaves very much like my old Ericsson R320s and back then Ericsson never used boosters like now.
Thanks for sharing Rhino8!

The signal strength here is fairly constant, both Vodacom and MTN at full bars. The problem starts when the 3G signal kicks in... Vodacom's 3G signal is mostly fine, but MTN has been the pits lately. Informal discussions with friends seem to indicate that MTN has been problematic for the better part of 3 months, and calls to Customer Care are usually futile... the operators seem to know even less than usual, it seems.

The signal fluctuating maybe due to your phones antenna being located where the palm of your hand is when holding the phone. Try holding your phones with your thumb at the bottom and finger at the top of the phone, that should give a full signal.
My N81 and friends i450 are the same, antenna stupidly located at the bottom. My N80's antenna and K850's are both at the top of the phone and both dont fluctuate, both can be set to 3G/HSDPA Only and have a full signal. Funny enough the N81s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas are at the top.
Im guessing the P1 and TyTN may be similar.

The Mrs, as most of you know works for MTN, says that the message they were given wrt the crappy network strength is that it is because MTN is upgrading towers to 3G (7.2HSDPA with HSUPA in metropolitan areas). How far that covers the truth is debatable, but that's what they were told by the big okes at MTN
