R1K001 seems to be the first official version.

The R1K001 had issues with GPRS and is "brown" (developer version).

Exactly. Early reviews claimed that the function of the centre button could be changed from activating the 'Walkman' function to instead run the 'activity meny'.
That was not possible with R1K001... perhaps with R1L001?
