I know the S710 has it. It could/should have been introduced at least with the k750/w800!!!
But no worries harping about it know I guess.... though any med-high end 2.5 phone released know should have it!!!! just my opinion!

We have had this discussion before, in great detail.
Sony Ericsson's main markets are/were Europe and Japan, both had early 3G network and this is where the majority of its customers where. Why should have it bothered wtih EDGE if its core markets did not support it. What a waste valuable resources.
This is now changing with the introduction of Edge on mid range models and Sony Ericssons wish to boost low/mid end models and market share in Asia and North America and Africa.
The reason why it has only bothered with 3G handsets and technology in the past is because it is a young company and probably wanted to groom itself as a high-end niche manufacturer, which it did.
3G phones = high-end phones so that is where its resources went.
What people fail to realise is that
NOKIA is 11 times the size of Sony Ericsson
Nokia employs 55,000 against Sony Ericssons 5000, which gives you some idea of the difference in the size between these companies.
David and Goliath anyone?
Nokia has got huge resources to release EDGE enabled phone after EDGE enabled phone at the drop of a hat and is able to compete in every market successfully.
simply hasn't.
Each handset had to be carefully targeted at a specific market / buyer or it would just lose out and a big mistake could be fatal to such a small company.

It still doesnt give a reason why the S710 and z500 have it and not others?? I agree that edge is just a bridge between gprs and 3G and not all networks support it! But its useful coz theres ALOT of
data users!!! I assume more than Samsung??

3G uses a system called umts which works on 2100 mhz instead of the normal 2/2.5g systems.

The difference in personnel is not as big as you may think. We are talking about the mobile devices here, right? Not the network and other stuff. Here's more comparable figures regarding employees:
- Nokia Mobile Phones (does the basic phones): 2558 employees
- Nokia Multimedia (does the multimedia devices): 2738 employees
- Nokia Enterprise Solutions (does business oriented devices): 2234 employees
That makes 7530 employees making mobile devices in Nokia. Not that much more than SE. This data is from the end of 2004.

Ericsson not SE supply the infrastructure for several networks. Ericsson were avarded the first 3G network infrastructure.
