i think its great that you have a choice with ipods! i am not a personal favourite of white and think black is much smarter so was very pleased when ipod brought out the u2 ipod and now the nanos in black. And the PSP looks like an amazing machine along with the black v3!

I personally dont care about the firmware since i'm confident it'll be hacked soon enough.

ive seen a few people using skins on there PSP's. its a cheap way of customising them and also protects the finish from scratches underneath the skin. and they dont leave a sticky surface when you take them off...
theres loads to choose from and there also available on ebay, but theres a big selection on show here....
