also, tests by aviation authorities have show than mobile phone cause no interference, yet they still ban the usage as a precautionary measure.

we have this conversation many a time before in many thread's, its not the fact its a ''phone'' but more so the point of view that its electrical, and electrical stuff can cause sparks.
add this up please;
take some electricity
+
highly flammable petroleum spirits
+
little spark from the electricity

i watched a programme the other day it was one if those 'should i worry about' type ones and was on mobiles. It concluded that:
no evidence to support SARS
chance of phone causing an explosion on a petrol forcourt is likt one in a million and there has only ever been one case where it is suspected a mobile phone
might have caused the explosion. concluded that banning them from forecourts is as much to do with makeing sure people are taking appropriate care rather than the risk of explosions.

DO greatly affect navigation equipment used in planes! All these conclusions were made were backed up with scientific evidence and from advice from the relevant scientific and industrial bodies. So anyone who is stupid enough to think it is ok to use phones on planes had better think again!
unfortunately i can't remmember the name of the programme but if anyone else saw it and can remmeber then please post it up here!

i saw an episode of Mythbusters a few months back, either on the Discovery Channel or on National Geographic, where they were trying to see whether mobiles posed a danger during refueling. they had a specially built chamber filled with fuel, and of course the fumes emitted, and a nokia 5110, which i presume has much higher SARS emissions than today's mobiles.
anyway, no matter how hard they tried or what they did, they couldn't make the mobile ignite the fuel. what their research showed is that the refueling explosions are more due to static electricity being transmitted from a person's hand when reaching for the refuelling nozzle.
what was interesting was that most of the explosions happened to young people. this was explained by the fact that younger people just swing out of their cars and get up, whereas older folk usually grab on to the door or some other part of the car to pull themselves up, thereby grounding themselves and discharging the static electricity.
anyway, after seeing the experiment, i wouldn't worry at all about mobiles and refuelling. it was never proven in the first place...
