I don't think Windows or Linux pose any serious threat to Symbian on the mobile market. Symbian has the backing of Nokia's market muscles and SE's innovation. Windows and Linux are not, nor will they ever be as light and nimble as Symbian, and will always need more hardware power, battery, processor, etc.
Symbian 9, and more importantly for me personally UIQ 3, will definitely be adding something interesting to the mix to keep the Symbian platform strong.

I agree with you, especially with Nokia's recent interest in UIQ, we may begin to see an array mid range smartphones running this os.
