interesting to see that Expansys have the
8910i as their "special of the day" reduced from £284.95 to just £249.95.
its amazing that that phone (the 8800 predecessor I guess) is still such a high priced phone!
I wonder if the 8800 will keep its value like that too!
i prefer the 8910i as its housing is titanium...

An interesting read Masseur. I'm not all that surprised at the down points you have listed.
Here in sunny viva los Ireland the 8800 is a cool 850EUR sim free. For this you get what I would classify as a girls jewellery accessory. No memory expansion (although 64mb isn't bad) no mega pixel camera and no data cable.
I wasn't that impressed with the key pad either. Its so bloody small. My fingers are just too fat and I need to use a special dialling wand:)
What bugs me the most tho, is the fact that it sounds like a zippo lighter when you open and close it yet it doesn't light cigarettes!

I also don't have fat fingers but still find myself using my finger nails.
There have been a couple of people in my office and also friends that have made the zippo comment
I'm coming to the conclusion that it is fairly stylish and does feel good in the hand too. I've been through most of the features and though by Nokia standards it seems to be basic I do feel it has most of what the average businessman (or celebrity perhaps) would want from such a fashion phone. I categorise it in those groups as so far businessmen and women are the only ones I have seen with it on my travels (except me and those on this forum), and certainly the price range suggests that too.
anyway, I'll give it another week and then move on to the next phone

its made of steel so it feels very strurdy. its smooth and the steel gives it a bit more weight than most other phones of this size so it dos feel like you have something in your hand
I still get surpised when people comment on "how heavy" it is because its 130-odd gramms compared to 80 or 90 gramms for the average phone this size and so I wouldn't class it as "heavy" myself. Its not like my arms are gonna get tired talking on this phone!

I had a 8800 when it first came out, and sold it shortly after.
After nearly 6 months I have bought another one, it's a rubbish phone really but it is so nice to hold and use that I put up with the low specs.
I def. will be keeping this one, I am really pleased I got another one.
Where is the p990!!!!!I need one NOW.

I wouldn't call it rubbish exactly. I can check mail on it, I can run java apps, I can play some pretty good games, it comes with an ok translator, a good converter, has the great nokia profiles that I remember etc etc etc... I really have never understood why people slag off Nokia so much. I still have my first Nokia, a 2110 and my last couple, an 8210 and an 8250
I too am somewhat hooked by the styling and having received my V3 back today from the colleague that I sold it to when I got my V3i (he decided it wasn't the phone for him and I was very very happy to give him his money back!) it places a very close second for me to the V3 which also is not the best functionality phone but has a certain je ne sais quoi

Same for me, I am a massive V3 fan and still have one. The biggest down for me with the V3 is not the UI but the fact that everyone seems to have one! Including 4 members of my family. Thats not gonna happen with the 8800 in a hurry.
I am a SE fan through and through, but there is nothing in there range at the moment (or the past year or so) that gives me the wow factor, so for the mean time I have chosen form over factor.
I can't wait to see the proper new version of the Razr when it comes. For me Motorola have the ability to make something so cool that I really don't care if its not got the best camera/memory/etc.

Well I still like the V3, especially the silver. My uncles got a silver, my cusin a black, my aunte and other cusin pink and my cusins gfs pink, so theyre pretty popular with my family too.
But for me I prefer to have some great features, hence why I have a W900.
