thanks guys for the infos and I didn't know about h.263 h.264 codec difference could be *negligible" on 320*240. I assumed that as ipod's main advantage (besides the hd space) this made me more tempted to go for w900. now if I can convince myself on radio.....
ps. Also I saw w950 walkman on reviews, why doesn't SE makes a photo enabled version of it. Ahh yeah we all now the answer

The videoplayer in the W900 has no Pause, Fast Forward or Rewind features. The "Walkman" isn't as simple to use as the iPod, plus the USB 1.1 transfer speed is patheticly slow. (If you stick your music on a Memorystick and use a card reader it'd be fine).
The Walkmans ID3 usage is a bit questionable, I can only get it to play songs in the correct order by creating playlists for each album.
The screen is however, excellent, not quite as big as the iPods though I think.
If you aren't too worried about the other functions of the phone beyond calls and SMS/MMS, but still want to play music/videos, then I'd say get the iPod and a cheaper phone (K750 or somesuch). If you feel you need one device that does it all, then the W900 is still a very good phone and most of the problems _might_ be resolved in firmware updates.

Strange, K750 can pause fast forward and rewind videos. Are you sure the W900 can't? Seems odd to me.

strange as i also share te same dilemma... though i only have a w800 and i was wonderin if i would just buy a very expensive 2gb card or buy an ipod video.. but i dont think the 2gb stick would compare to either 30 or 60 gb ipod capacity.. and by the way, can we see a point of reference of your song compression? and in that compression, how much song could you theoretically stuff in either of the device? tia

the w900i
can pause, rewind, and fastforward videos in normal view and fullscreen mode, if you play your videos through the walkman player.
The file manager player has no pause/rewind/fastforward, so er, don't use it!

Aha, didn't occur to me to try playing videos through the walkman player. Pause is useful if nothing else. The file manager does let you play the movie in horizontal full-screen mode though.
Is the native USB interface on the phone only 1.1 or is it just really slow USB2? Doesn't transfer data to onboard memory anywhere near as fast as my ipod nano. USB 1 should be able to transfer data at a bit over 1 Megabyte/second at full speed. My file transfers to my W900 are about half that, so nowwhere near USB 2 speed. What speed do people get? Maybe it's just my setup.
