It should let you update. I use to have that firmware before the R1BC and I just updated. I'm on T-Mobile UK, so the only thing I can think of is that your Carrier might have a fimrware lock so you can't update to newer versions. The best thing is just take it to like The Link or Carphonewarehouse and they see if they can help you..

I went into Service Info -> SIM lock ...
I see Network, Network subset, Service provider, Corporate, Extended all have a LOCK icon and 5 after it.
Even though it sounds like the phone is locked, I can still use any SIM card with it. I have T-Mobile in the US, yet my Hong Kong SIM works on the phone. How strange.
Is this the LOCK you are talking about? If so, anyone knows how to unlock them in order to upgrade the firmware??

No, Simlock is something entirely different.
What I meant by Fimware lock, is that your SIMCARD carrier like Tmobile have only allowed users to have your specific firmware version and not able to update. The best thing is keep trying to use to SE software and update, or go to a shop and see if they can help.

@adamon
dude, the things you need are in this forum, just check the
FIRMWARE section.
its all in there.. use the search engine within this site.
anyway, the difference of RIL and the latest which is R1BC is the volume level. is your kinda annoyed by your volume with your current firmware.. then do the update.. youll love the overall volume change. If not, then practically its the closest related firmwares with minimal known bugs. the UPDATE is SAFE, you just hafta be patient and be guided accordingly...
ciao!
THANKS PAL

@ilabstudios,
I did not purchase the phone from T-Mobile at all. I got it from an independent store where the phone is unlocked and allows me to use with any SIM card. Besides, when I was doing the upgrade, one of the steps was to remove the SIM card.
That being said, there is really NO firmware lock by any carrier per se, right? Because the phone is not branded for T-Mobile and I can use it with any carrier.
can anyone shed some light here.

There is no such thing as a "firmware lock". Some phones have network customisations, although the phone might still be unlocked. For example my Optus handset is not locked - I can use any simcard from any operator. However, optus didn't release the R1BC firmware for a long time after it's oifficial release. SEUS detected the customisation file on the phone and says "sorry, I have no firmware for optus customised phones yet" (but the message we actually see says "you have the latest software"). Once Optus signed off on R1BC, a customisation file was created and then phones that match that customisation could now update.
SEUS will only update your phone to software that matches your customisation.

@max_wedge,
Interesting feedback. So, I don't seem to have any choice but to wait until that version is released to my phone that was customized for the Asia market?

It sounds like that's what's happening. If the customisations don't match then SEUS won't update. You could still update via Davinci or similar.

Your best alternative is update it via Davinci.
