@solobaric, U don`t HAVE to use the handwriting input if you don`t want to, it`s an option, the modern phone is all about choice,you may find about 4 or 5 ways to write a sms, 1. handwriting on touchscreen, 2.tiny qwerty touchscreen keyboard, 3.plastic keypad, 4.virtual keypad on touchscreen (different to keyboard), also the "jog dial" on the side might be able to input.
