If you want raw HTML code to show up, you have to tick the checkbox that says 'disable HTML on this post' before you hit the Submit button. It's located directly underneath the text box that you type your post into.

many thanks for explaining...i am learning web design and am still at the confused stage of learning xhtml at present..lots of theories going through my head at the moment...theories that don't work yet lol
