hi all

to get this to work iyyou need to set up your email as you would usually do. then go to www.o2.co.uk and open up a free o2 email account.
go into your email account on phone and at the bottom of the list of settings for your new email account go into advanced. in there you will find a user name and password section. just put in your email accout name from o2, and then put the password of your o2 email account in password, save and come out and you can send mail from any isp provider. simple wasnt it. 5 days of changing every setting on the phone but i got there. good luck all

I can't see anywhere that lets me sign up for an email account????

All I can find is some blurb about access O2 mail via O2 Active - but this isn't using the inbuilt email client, this is equivalent to viewing email via a wap page...that's not what I want.

Do you have a direct link???

Cheers

hi
you go online with a standard computer and set up an o2 email account. you never have to access it again. Use the password and user name of the online email account in your phone. go to email - advanced - user name ( fill in) you go to password - ( fill in) and come out. You do not access o2 to send and recieve your mail. The only reason for having it is to give your phone the user name and password that it keeps throwing back when your sending outgoing mail. Your mail goes through your own isp so if your with NTLWORLD then it recieves and sends through ntlworld. using the email client on the phone, not a wap browser.
I hope that is clearer. The user name and password stops silly message on outgoing mail on the email client of the phone saying incorrect user name or password

It doesn't sound like the issue here is with the O2-specific part (the data account). Things to try:

1. Double check that your encryption settings match your port numbers. The phone changes port numbers automatically when you switch encryption settings, but sometimes it gets it wrong.

No encryption / TLS:
POP: 110
IMAP: 143
SMTP: 25 or 587 (depending on mail provider)

SSL:
POP: 995
IMAP: 993
SMTP: 465

2. If you get errors about unknown or untrusted certificates, you need to install the correct certificates in your phone. How do you find the correct certs? Well, we can help you with that but you need to tell us the name of the server you are using.

3. If you have a K800i, make sure you input your username/password also under "Advanced", if your SMTP server requires authentication - for instance with gmail.

4. Different outgoing/incoming servers / cannot send mail. There is a known problem in K800i that in some cases makes it impossible to send mail if you use your mobile operators SMTP server. If you suspect this (you get wrong username/password errors even though you double checked), you should either a) upgrade your software or b) use the SMTP server of your email provider instead. Again, give more detailed info (including server name) if you need help for a specific email provider.

Don't give up! Email on your phone leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to ease of setup, but in most cases it is possible to make it work.

hi, i'm new to this forum and it looks pretty helpful to be honest but i'm still struggling with the bloody email.
i tried this ages ago and still i can't get it to work. I've given up on 02 cos they're a waste of space. can anybody tell me exactly what their settings are on email settings so i can try and find the problem. I've never had so much bother with a bl00dy phone. thanks in advance. also, just realised i could've clicked the "quote" button to get the above bit in my post. nevermind, i'll know for next time. ha ha

Hi all

Just got this to work from Orange K800 connecting to yahoo.co.uk account.

In the email settings you need to put the yahoo address (smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk) as the outgoing server, and in advanced settings use port 587 in the outgoing port option.

Just tested - and seems to work fine - no incorrect username/password message.

Okay, i'm a newb to this forum but i recieved a k800i yesterday and like a lot of other people in many forums (google found lots!) was struggling with the email, but i got it working, and since i read this one i'm gonna reply here too, hopefully this can help someone out as the combination of about five forums helped me out.

Account settings:
Account name:
O2 UK

Email Alert:
blah

Connect Using:
O2 Mobileweb (Also works on O2 WAP GPRS)

Email Address:
blah@o2.co.uk

Connection Type:
Pop3

Incoming Server:
mail.o2.co.uk

Username: (same as above email address!!!)
blah@o2.co.uk

Password:
*******

Outgoing server:
smtp.o2.co.uk

------------------------------
Advanced Settings:

Your Name:
[BLANK]

Signature:
[BLANK]

Download S&R:
Up to size limit

Check Interval:
Off

Push Email:
[BLANKED OUT]

Allow Connection:
Home Network

Copy Outgoing:
Off

Encryption:
No encryption

Outgoing Username:
[BLANK]

Outgoing Password:
[BLANK]

Incoming Port:
110

Outgoing Port:
25

So thats my lot, thanks for the help, i've posted this a couple of others forums, simply as people want the whole settings to get a basis of what they are doing right or wrong! Hope this helps. Note that the advanced the username/password are blank, and that the username in the main settings is your whole account email address, not at all just your account name!
cheers
