Another change I've just noticed with the new firmware is that when syncing with PC Suite you no longer get the little flashing globe connection icon on the status bar of the phone.

Hi there,
I am in America and tried the global update service. I got it installed ok. I can't seem to get the battery cover off...it's really, really solidily placed. I know the instructions require full battery and no SIM. I tried about five times without taking SIM out. It seems to turn the unit off as it detects device...then finds the device (P990), offers to downloade MR1 version of firmware, and then says downloading, installing (in rapid succession), before taking me back to the start screen. So the firmware upgrade process has been a failure so far
PS...how's the signal strength on your fone? Mine seems to bounce all over the place...even sitting and not moving. I've had other fones and they never did that. Do you think my antenna could be hyper-sensitive, or maybe damaged? I can't vouch for how the unit was shipped, but I haven't dropped it here! lol

Hi Bloomp,
Okay, thanks for the confirmation. It's very frustrating. I like the phone very much tho. I hope that I can upgrade the ROM without having to take the SIM out, as it's nice to have a fone for once that finally doesn't have a loose back lol
How do you like the unit? I am still putting it thru it's paces, but am a little concerned about the reception issue. Would you say that yours locks into a signal and holds it?
Cheers,
Brendan

My battery cover was very, very stiff too. In the end I managed to pull it off just enough to get a fingernail, or the edge of a knife between the gap between the top of the battery cover and the rest of the case in order to gently push it off fully. No amount of pulling or pushing would remove my cover on its own.

Yeah I like the phone
I find it a bit suggish when switching apps (compared to the p910i and my nokie e61) and having problems with the email auto retrieval app. I do find the back very stiff too!
Sometimes find reception completely vanishes for no reason too.
messaging app often crashes.
would love to get the update to work. cant understand what the problem is. I hope someone works out what the issue is!
