Hey guys!
I would like to request a feature for the upcomming UIQ3 SMAN.
You see, I've been testing alot of java games on my m600. No 3D-java games work btw. However.... after I tried star wars imperial ace I noticed that when I clicked on the symbol in the top right corner (which allows you to instantly shut down the java application or switch to task menu), the game would run and would even draw the 3D graphics. But as soon as I put focus on the game again it crashed.
This has made me believe that the application icon (or what ever it is called) is actually interfering with the java games.
That is why I would like a feature to temporarily disable it. I think this would open up the opportunity to play all the cool 3D-games out there.
Peace
ps. Pm me if you need some games to test to see what I mean.
pps. If you could make a miniapp that I can get before sman is released, that would be even better

This is fantastic news! Judging by the wait I'm currently experiencing with Orange then by the time I get the phone SMan will probably be released! Anyway, as soon as it is done you can expect a donation from me. Thank you guys, all of your past work and future endeavours are much appreciated.

@all:
An update, I just spoke to Droll today and we have decided to re-think our SMan UIQ3 stratergy. Basically, we will be working on (for the initial version) a Task Manager only. This meets a few needs, they are:
1. The Task Manager does not need the application to be signed (we think, so far).
2. We can release the application real quickly, since there seems to be a need for it.
3. We will work with the UIQ3 interface, since we plan to do a proper standard UIQ3 interface.
We may also add other things into SMan which does not need the signed certificate to work and focus on the signed stuff later. We are also looking into the possibility of supporting portrait mode UIs only. Our biggest challenge right now is to see how we can add in the "Fn" and "Do" buttons into the UIQ3 framework as we realized that we do not have much control over the UI unlike UIQ2.x framework.
In short, SMan initial may only be a Task Manager and adding other things to SMan will come later and we will try to include things that do not need SMan to be signed to work first before looking at the signed bits. Hope this explains everything.

@ajack
great news.
Will the initial release work in flip closed mode as well? I am really using my P990 much more in flip closed mode than I expected (especially with Opera mini being available).

From Droll:
oh bad news. task manager needs to be signed if you do forced end task. the task manager is coming along nicely. initial tests show a lot more stuff running on the phone now than on UIQ2.0. i've manage to get at most 28% of system memory free. compacting memory doesn't seem to have much effect on the running tasks but it does free up a little bit of system memory.
i was hoping we could avoid the signing portion.

28% of 64Mb = 17.9Mb right? is that with an M600 or a P990??
I hope you can at least release a taskmananger that can milk a few extra Mbs for everyone without the force-flush sooner rather than later. But, as always, your work is greatly appreciated and we look forward to seeing it in action

A sneak peek of the UIQ3 SMan... I have edited the picture to hide/remove our new icon.
On the application itself, we will update everyone on the future path of SMan since:
1. We can only update it every 6 months.
2. The initial module (Task Manager) uses functions that need signing.
Before that, is anybody willing to sponsor the signed application so we do not need to wait and beg Symbian? Please PM me if you have an idea of speed the signing process.

Great!!! ajack, iīm available to pay a decent price for the app...if everybody that begs for SMAN for UIQ 3 contributed with a little money, i think you would have what you need quick...
But please create a special paypal account just for SMAN UIQ 3, so people can see clearly what they are supporting
