So Spawn, are you hinting that you bought a CAD$1000 phone just to use SMS, RSS and web browsing only? Then perhaps you are better off getting yourself a M600i For people spending so much $$$ on a flag ship phone only to realise it can only do this "little" before the OS starts killing off the rest of the apps in the background, is it worth the CAD$1000 of your hard earned $$$? This makes the P990i an "UNRELIABLE" device to depend on. For e.g., someone in my-symbian set a timer application only to realise later that it has been killed off by the OS when the phone "runs low on memory" which in the end, he misses the time... I was listening to Music via HBH-DS970 during CommunicaAsia 2006, and after I started the 5th application (empty calendar, empty contacts, empty notes, control panel, and lastly... Messaging), the OS runs too low on memory and it kills off everything, including my music player! Is this what we are expecting out of a CAD$1000 flag ship device from SE?

Yes to me its worth it, perhaps im not such a stickler for perfection like yourself. I can live with its shortcomings, the way i see it is you cant live with the shortcomings of the p990i then return it for a refund???. Why put up with such a device if all your going to do is moan and moan about the RAM. If anything it just seems to be you adnhk that has severe issues with the amount of ram the p990i has or should i say lack of it. As of yet i havent have any major problems with the p990i...other than the fact that at the moment i cant access secure pages but im sure its a setting somewhere that needs to be adjusted. Yes my p990i kills off apps of its own accord...so what...its not like the end of the world for me. So what if i use the p990i to browse the net, read the rss feed and compose emails and sms text messages??...as far as im concerned the phone does what it says...it does all those things plus more for me.
All in all im definitely happy i bought the p990i, best phone in a long time that ive bought despite its bugs and niggles.

I did have the m600i but the lack of WIFI made me return it plus the release of the p990i was close so couldnt justify the ownership of 2 phones that are very similar albeit a few new things ie WIFI and camera.

You just seem to forget that its a newly released phone and im sure in the next coming months SE will further optimise the firmware. As ive said previously i liken the p990i to the p800 when that was first released...full of bugs and crashed every 5 mins...well mine did..but in the end it got better and better with newer models and the best model being the p910i...so who knows whats around the corner, im sure SE will be releasing an updated, faster and more efficient model of the p990i soon and i know ill end up buying that as well.

Well, perhaps to you $$$ is of no issue nor concerns. But please be more sensitve to others who are NOT SO WELL TO DO as compared to you... From what I can understand from your post, if paying an extra CAD$500 for a WiFi is worth it to you so you must be someone who has no concerns over $$$... But again, please be sensitve to tons of others who are not as lucky nor as well to do as you...

Also to note, I had stressed in one of your previous posts over at my-symbian and I stress here again... please do your homework before posting such claims that someone is ALONE with the RAM issue...

Want to know why I still keep my P990i? Well, first of all, I am a loyal P series user, from P800-->P900-->P910i->P990i. My concerns for P990i is due mainly because of how proud I am being a P910i owner for the past couple of years. Hence I am expecting the P990i to be a step forward as compared to a 2 year old P910i. Second of all, my job nature expects that I am able to support as many mobile devices as possible in the company that I work for. Hence the reason I have WM devices, Treo 650, BB devices as well as P990i...

Edit: No I did not forget about firmware upgrades to make a device more stable. But does anything that SE did during P800-P900 reminds you that they managed to increase RAM memory out of firmware upgrades? C'mon, this is hardware issue and all SE could do is fix bugs and they can't do much about hardware issues...

^^^Fair enough if im not being sensitive to others then i apologise but i dont think ive been unnecessarily harsh on anyone.
All im saying is that it seems that your the only one whos making a big issue out of the RAM or the lack of ram etc. Fair enough thats your perogative to do so but im having RAM issues as well but im not making a song and dance about it. Your not the only one thats suffering from this RAM problem, the others including me are making do with it...yes it closes apps down of its own accord but as i said its not that big an issue for me and probably for others from what i have been reading.

I wouldnt say im filthy rich, yes im well off but ive always been the type of guy that buys the latest phones and tech out there...yes it costs me an arm and leg but if i dont like it and cant live with it, i return it simple as that. Why keep something that your not happy with, i know i wouldnt. I wouldnt say that p990i because it has WIFI is the overriding factor for me in buying this phone and keeping it. I could have easily went for the HTC Tyn Tyn but i decided not to because like you ive been a p series user and owner for a very long time and despite their bugs/niggles i have loved each and every one of them and i feel the same about the p990i as well. To me it can only get better through firmware updates or newer models. Yes SE made a mistake in delaying the release for such a long time, they didnt beta test the p990i properly in my opinion and thats a bit of a shame really.
There are lots of things wrong with the p990i, im finding them one by one but i do ask myself....is it liveable with these problems...the answer is usually yes because despite all those problems...it still works great as a phone and to me thats very important.

As i said before i do love this phone despite its problems, i have another 15 days before i can return it for a full refund but at the moment i have absolutely no desire to send it back. If anything im waiting on SE to see what they replace this model with, hopefully it will have more ram and be less buggy. Granted they can only optimise the ram with the p990i, i cant see how they can add more ram via a firmware update.

Anyways think its best we agree to disagree, there are some points i agree with u and there are some that i dont...thats life.

Spawn,

There is no such thing as a 30 days or full refund in some countries. I would have return the P990i if there was that option in my country.

I've paid full retail price and expect a phone that is free from bugs.

Unfortunately for the P990i, even a simple matter of deleting a sms and a BT transferred file is not as easy as it looks as I've to do a Master Reset as a last resort.

I concur with what Adnhk1 have written and I am also facing those problems.

We'll hear about those issues again when many of the people are buying the P990i next month.

how is that my nokia 6620 has 27 mb of ram when it boot up, and the p990 only has 16 mb??
this is just stupid for a phone that is really expensive.

@xtemujin

please check posts in the firmware thread. Sleepyhead and I established that if you start the Messaging app in flip closed mode you lose the Delete Message menu ite, but if you start the Messaging app in flip open mode the Delete Message option is available.

Jah,

Someone mentioned about it to me too.

Firstly, I would like to say that it does happen sometimes even when I FO the keypad and then starts the Messaging option.

Right now, the problem of not being able to delete sms and file transferred through BT is not about the missing Delete tab that I've mentioned before.

After updating the firmware. I tried sending two sms and it was in the Outbox for 15 minutes, I then decided to move it to the Draft box.

That is when the problem started of not being able to delete the sms in the Draft box. I've tried using the three available means of deleting the sms, Qwerty Del button, drop down list Delete tab using stylus and using the keypad C button. All the inputs do bring up the "This will delete the message".

However, the sms still stays in the Draft box and I've removed the battery and restarted the handphone. I can't even send it and clicking on the Edit tab will bring out the Busy tab. As a last resort I've to Master Reset to remove the sms in the Draft box.

For BT transferred files, sometimes, I've to turn off the P990i BT before I'm able to delete the files in the Inbox.

HTH.

@xtemujin

This is a very unusual issue.
I would recommend reformatting. If this does not work then it would be worth reflushing your phone with the latest firmware once more..

Agreed, ive yet to suffer the same prob as xtemujin is suffering from. All my sms, mms and emails are sent straight away soon as i click on send. only time its stayed in the outbox is when i dont have any reception. But once i get full reception back, it sends it straight away.
