The standby clock works differently in W810 than on any other SE phone, so your suggestion does not work on W810. This difference was the very first thing discussed when W810 was released.

I talked by phone with the SE support, and they told me that was a SE choice and is not modifficable, because is done in this way to permit the battery last longer...
Well as a customer I have to say that SE is in a wrong way, because It should be and option to choose to show the clock in standby or not (obviously with the sms icon)

I think that SE doesn't listen the customer needs... too bad for SE.

Yes - this was a bad decision. I mean - I can switch off the standby-clock in my K610. By default it is set to OFF if I remember right. So the battery safing is guaranteed this way when the phone is delivered. But I have the choice to switch it on. And I do...
So it looks like the feature came back with the K610 and the K790/K800.
