Hi MR

Thanks once again for your input!

The pont with Tomtom and software is that once the program is completed, selling mobile-phone software is almost ALL profit. On the 'GO' the hardware is a much higher cost per sale.

However, it would be nice to see Navigator on the 990i. Why would we want to use any other package?!?!

Hi all,
I totally agree with Laurie once they have the version all the costs have been incurred. To not then make it available to those platforms and then not releasing it to us. We will all go and buy an additional GO unit rather than use some other software on our smartphones that's just plain crazy. Tom Tom is good IMO the best but there are others that are nearly as good IMO and I would rather buy than getting a GO unit.

You've got to love their logic

IMO by going with this strategy they are only going to open themselves up to far more piracy than they perhaps would have if they had made the application available to paying customers.

I already have a Go unit (actually its a ONE), but I would still look to buy TomTom for my P990i (just for convenience more than anything else - I always have the P990i with me, but rarely carry the Go unit unless I know I am going to need it). Over the course of a year TomTom already make money of me with my subscription to Traffic and the $afety cameras, and I don't intend on buying a new Go unit anytime soon.

To be honest if Route 66 do produce something for the P990i then this is where my money will end up if there is no TomTom available, and the money spent is additional revenue that *would* have been TomTom's if they wanted it - which apparently they don't.

IMO if they aren't going to sell TomTom for UIQ3 as a standalone package then they might as well not even bother at all for all the sales that their bundle will make (ie vitually zero).

Just seen this on a GPS forum. Not sure how accurate it is!

We're still digging for info – shame Tomtom couldn't stop all this guessing ...!

Laurie

Tomtom has now been launched Navigator 6 for our PDAs, PocketPC's, Palm's and Nokia Smartphones (S60 v3, N80/E61 type only) to be precise. Previously compatible with TomTom Mobile 5 available in Europe, Windows Smartphones are no longer supported.

if will be only available for M600 in a special package, i think that will be a incentive to piracy...because all the P990 will want the app one way or another

btw, in this french forum they say the UIQ 3 version will be a fact

The list in not complete... TomTom6 will work on more phones than listed but just because it worked with v5 don't automatically presume it will work with v6.

I'm not sure why TomTom bother releasing a full list of devices like that. Surely it is enough to just say it works on WM2003/WM5 Pocket PC devices. Especially since a number of those listed have been obsolete for a while. It makes no sense to list the HP 4150 yet leave out the Dell X50?

Despite the Nokia E61 being the only S60v3 device listed I would imagine it works on most if not all of them.

What is notable however is there specifically being no mention of any UIQ devices supported.
Looks like yet again TomTom will be ignoring the UIQ market so will leave a competitor (Route 66 maybe) to clean up instead.

Nope they will not push away UIQ. I cannot say more about that sorry. But let's use a Orange slogan: The first looks bright for the P990i

The list is far from complete, but that is always the case with TomTom. It is never complete and with some easy hands you can make it work on any PDA you want. So if they come with a M600i, why not port it too a P990i.....

I do not know about the private sales. That is something TomTom is not really keen on I think. But let's see. You can always share the M600i around on the P990i and check if it works .
