Oh yeah, the fact that iPODs dont come with a charger basically means their portable ability is severely hampered

i have a simple answer...

esato menbers are ignorant?

or it could be the fact that they are fans of SONY who are also apples original leading competitor. Since the 3rd gen ipod, apple has bitch slapped sony back to japan, The walkman phone range is more sucssfull then sonys walkman players these days...

ipods are better in almost every way, what annoys me is people saying that ipods only last a year and that the battery life is shit etc.

In practive ipods last allot longer then a year, it just depends how well you treat them, like a k750i will only last a year before the joystick buggers up...

and I think 18 hours of music is more then enough for the normal user, considering you will only listen to music for 2-3 hours a day on the move....
THAT is a "simple" answer - actually, take it back! Take it away and stick it on your back like a kick-me sign! ipods are music-players. Phones are phones that can do un-phoney things... This is turning silly! Check the active members numbers... Count the "I hate ipods"-posts... Phone-that-can-do-unphoney-things v. Overhyped music-player!!! What a debate! I was around to buy one of the first original walkman-players (remember cassettes?) - guess what: the best I ever owned was an aiwa!!! And I have owned stereos that would by you a car these days... Phone... Music-thingy... Take it easy and take it back... Have a nice w/end too!

providing you use the apple lossless coding (and dont mind the large file sizes) they are very good sounding no match for a cd player or a md player. just get a decent set of head phones and dont use any equalisers on the sound.

This is how i tested.
Song: Candy Shop by 50cent.
Earphones: HPM-70

When i tested it on W800, the bass was perfect at mid volume, it wasnt creaking or whatever considering its a bass intensive song.
Then i tested an iPOD, the bass was really really pathetic, even at different EQ settings it was just crap compared to W800.

Then i used iPOD's earphones on my W800, and guess what, they actually sounded a lot better!

Try the same 3rd-part headphones on both. sounds flat with no EQ, and muddy with any "Bass" settings. iPod sounds perfect with the EQ off, and the bass is sweet with "Bass Boost" selected.

But, it's all in the ear of the beholder.

@alrodlop35: "A lot" smaller Exaggerating just a tad, methinks.

@thetmaxx: The storage isn't about listening to days' worth of music on-end. It's about having the most choice available to you at any given moment. I guess you can't comprehend the simplicity of having your entire music collection with you, all the time, without hardly ever having to reconnect to a computer for more song transfers.

@shaliron: Yes, Mac's do drag'n'drop. But iTunes obviates this step, if you so choose - it syncs your music for you once the iPod is connected. It's funny how people dislike having computers automatically perform mundane, repretitive tasks for them

I used to use my K750i or music with a HPM-70 this carried on with my W550i but the one thing that bothered me most is the connection, the tediousness of having a connector then headphones annoys me as it it just extra wiring. I know its used for hands free but im sure others will agree they would feel stupid without having a phone talking to someone.

With the ipod which i got roughly after my W550i i noticed it was less of a hassle carrying 2 items with me, firstly the sound was ok but not great, coupled with my etymotic ER6's it was a good match. Also a downside to having a phone as a music player is usually you'd have it in your pocket and the connector ALWAYS messed up on me i went through several HPM-70's this way. One final thing is that makes the ipod win is that its so much easier to manage music and sync it, it works out of the box, with me when i had the wlakman phones it was such a chore, drag drop into music then you'd have to sit there and sort out playlists on the phone.

so in short, you could never eally merge 2 things into one device without a few sacrifices, just its easier having seperate items, thats my take.

hmmmmm....put it this way....the original WALKMAN is a music player!
i-pod is just something that can do some music stuff!

wat i mean is yeah ipod is great but the /MUSIC phones are the next level(even APPLE knows tht!).true MUSIC phones are not AS GOOD AS zen/i-pod/zeun etc..
but they are in the race and ppl can sacrifice a lil bit frm the MUSIC PLAYERS
for better comfort of carrying a phone and a MUSIC PLAYER together!
the MUSIC PHONES produce good quality....if the companies jst improve it with better interface and yeah w/10 gb capacity,im sure MUSIC PHONES will dominate within a yr....

@Luke

Ignorant are we? All 100,000+ of us? Except you of course.
I thought Microsoft was Apple's original competitor?
BTW learn to spell. There's no v in practice.

I don't own a iPod but not because of an irrational hatred nor ignorance.
I just like having a full featured phone on me with the bonus of a few MP3 tracks for when I have some down-time. phones like the V630 and my previous V800 do the job just fine.

If I want a dedicated MP3 player, the iPod would be my first choice. Probably an 8Gig nano.

before i bought my k800, i think eagerly which of the should i buy since i already have k700 at that time. k800 or ipod or even creative.

anyway.. i think i go for k800 instead wasting my money on ipod.

you see, k800 has A LOT of FEATURES over ipod like i can do phone calls, take some camera, video calls and even listen to music

the great thing about on ipod is well of course you have a big screen on 30gb or more. more storage and then??? NO MORE I GUESS

and you cant listen all those 100,000+ songs on one day, i know it could store, and you can listen anytime you want but hey! i do have k800 and i can remove some song and add new one though it is a little hussle

and like i said, i can do many things in k800 over ipod. sounds? well maybe ipod? i'm not that enthusiast to quality of sound but on my part, i want productivity!!!

and i dont like carrying many gadgets even if iam a gadget lover. to cut the crap, i dont like to carry my k700 and an ipod! its a little bit irritating to me so i choose k800. all in one

if you want to talk iphone, well maybe after they have released then

uuuhhhh ohhh .. after reading some of the answers it's clear that some members like to have a gadget for every purpose ... i can imagine some of you walking around in town with the following items in your pants (or on your belts ):
-ipod
-cheap-assed phone that is only a phone
-pager
-camera
-video-camera
-calculator (because the phone is just a phone )
-PDA
-MP3 player in case the ipod runs out of batery
-PSP so you can play some games

the more or less value of all of these is around 2000 gpb (rough estimate)

WELL i prefer going around in the city with a phone in my pocket that can do all these thing EXCEPT WEIGH 10KG overall

@Hlcn Twst: I guess it is a bit exaggerated but for some reason the phone's a lot easier to put in a pocket. Could be the not slim-biased shape and the material it's made of. This is amplified by that dreadful iSkin my mom made me put on it because there was more scratched surface on it than not-scratched surface. Aside from making it a lot (yes A LOT) bigger, the rubbery material grips the pocket and refuses to slide in.
