Just take the speaker that comes with the carkit and cut the cable at the speaker end. Plug the connector into the HCA-60 control box and attach suitable connectors to the +ve and -ve speaker wires at the other end.
Then plug the connectors into the terminals marked -TEL and +TEL and your done. Sound from your carkit will enter the Headunit and be played by the speakers.
I've done it before it does work.
One problem - that will only give me Mono sound, even when stereo music is playing from the phone
Otherwise, you are correct. The "TEL" +/- inputs want a speaker-level, not line-level, mono input for phone audio. This cause no problems for the factory amp.
Just checked that Land Rover link; not struck that problem - not as many LR's in NZ as in the UK (thank God!)
but it's hardly suprising LR would throw a spanner in the works considering how badly they've built cars for so long.
I quoted the LR setup because it sounds like our American-market VWs with the "upgrade" sound system. I guess to save $$$ on wiring and connectors, the head unit connects to the amp-DSP unit via the same speaker (that is, speaker-level) outputs as non-upgraded-stereo cars. Which then causes a problem for any add-on kits that hijack the speakers with their own amplified connectors
BTW, I'm obviously missing some joke about Land Rover
Very few of them here in the US, since they're considered luxury vehicles. We have too many of the cheaper variety of these automotive water buffalo, e.g. Ford Explorers and Chevrolet Suburbans.

There are quite a few of them out for all makes and models from several manufacturers: PIE (VW's OEM supplier of iPod interfaces IIRC), PAC, USA-Spec, Blitzsafe, off the top of my head.

You have a VW, right? I'm contemplating the hook up between my w810 and my Audi.
As mentioned earlier, I have the hch-61? (w810 holder), but I still haven't figured out how I want to hook it up.
Options:
1. mmc-60 to a converter like the one you show in a photo earlier that allows me to use my CDchanger input
Pros: should sound awesome
Cons: cost of both pieces of hardware(converter is like 65 for my ride). No battery charge for my w810
2.mmr-60 plugged into the bottom of my hch-61.
Pros: i already have the mmr-6 and hch-61 (i used the mmr-60 on my w800 for my water-proof Sony boombox for floating the river: i turned it on mix and put it into 2 ZipLock bags)
Cons: sounds like crap on a nicer stereo, no charge for w810
3.This is the one I hope works. I found an Audi Tech article on audiworld that tells me how to splice into the CD changer input without additional hardware. Remove the USB end of a DCU-60 cable. splice the sound output into the CDchanger input and run the power wire from DCU-60 to a hot lead under my dash (probably requires some extra, inexpensive electronics to ensure correct voltage, etc. should be easy, I've already built a backup battery charger out of a 9volt battery and an Altoids tin).
Pros: play music, charge phone
Cons: not sure if it'll work
Curious to know how you're project turned out
