> P1 (who is going to buy?)
Bookmark topic
I'll be getting one (as a contract upgrade - I'm willing to wait till it gets a little cheaper) and I'll most probably be sticking with it a good while too. As far as I'm concerned, the combination of M600 form factor (and keyboard) with P990 features and better, is all I could possibly need from any phone for a long time. GPS is something I can do without (and add on whenever I need it), so the next phone will have to have a lot more than that to attract me; I can't really imagine what that will be.
I've been a P-series fan since the P800, but I'll never buy another "flip" model again. The P1 is the future as far as I'm concerned.

If this is the M600i replacement I wonder how many they will sell? I thought the point of the M600i was that it could be used in environments where cameras are not permitted.
Its feature list certainly places its lineage in the P990i sector but if as we are assured it is not the sucsessor to the P990 it begs the question what is the sucessor to the M600i?

I will also wait for the true p990 successor. I like the p1, but i prefer the flip design
I really like the P1 and would consider buying it , but I am with ares on this the flip and multi directional pad make the p990i much easier to use one handed.

Seriously though, have you tried using the M600? The above is just a common misconception in my experience. The M600 (and by extension the P1) is absolutely perfect for one-handed use, and it offers all the advantages of full screen mode all the time.

man, we respect you decision...do the same for our...and yes, i did experiment a M600, but nothing beats being able to use the P990 has a normal phone, with keypad and normal number (that the M600 cant, fully), or like a pda, at the same time, by using it flip closed or flip open
this article is excelent to prove my point

i probably will as an upgrade to my m600i (which is the phone it actually replaces, NOT THE P990i) but not for a good while
and will people PLEASE get it into their heads THIS IS NOT A P990i REPLACEMENT. IT IS THE M600i REPLACEMENT
So by saying this you also say that there's coming a P990i replacement???
If you're right I just don't understand that SE choses to call this new phone the P1???
As I see it the P1i is definately the replacement of both the M600 and the P990i, putting all the best things in to one module, cleaning up in all the upgrades (was P910 really that big an upgrade from P900 etc) and starting with a new beginning so to speak, with a new module called P1i.
I think the flip is dead and why choose a phone with a touchscreen, just to avoid using it all day long (as reffered in an article earlier...

)
Why I definately am going to buy this P1i is that SE finally has put everything, except gps into one single device, that is not too big like the P900 and thereby also the P990i is - in my opinion anyway...

Ares, I can't help but point out that article completely ignores the existence of the M600i - a UIQ3 phone that is completely one-hand friendly throughout, without any need to worry about which apps are "flip closed" friendly or otherwise. Trust me, it can and does "fully" open up UIQ3 in full screen mode 24/7, optimised for one-handed use. It does this while having both a normal number keypad and a full qwerty keypad available at all times.
The "flip closed" mode on the P990 is a fraud, a function that would never be necessary if the P990 had the M600's keypad and design to start with. It's justified by the awkward placement of buttons on the screen in full screen mode - but this is rectified on the M600 and P1, nullifying any use for the flip or "flip closed" mode.
The bottom line is this - on my M600i, I can operate any UIQ3 app with one hand, comfortably. Can you? You can on the P1...

I think P1 should use p990 full qwerty not m600 one.
