@ crossmatched,
that same sms accelerator was also recommended for my e61 - even before I installed it though, it handled sms way faster than my k750 or my wife's w810! A lot of your "arguments" are based on very early previews - when s60 3rd ed. was new, there was little to compare it to and a lot of pseudo-experience was just copying criticism of earlier s60 models like 6680 etc... My e61 never ever hung in 8 months... i tried an n73 for a week: I never had to re-start! My n91 never hung nor has it required a restart at any point, and you'd need an olympic stopwatch to figure out if they handle sms faster or slowlier than k800!!! But you're not alone - there are still people saying there isn't enough s60 3rd software around only 1200 + programmes on handango... Not enough at all...so buy many k800 and some extra shiny spare keys!

ok. point taken. im just always reminded of my experience using my friend's n80. it took me a minute to send a short sms. the same with our doctor's n73. turtles. comparing e61 with k750 isnt fair. try comparing your e61 with k550, which is aalloooot faster than clara.

sure, I see your point - however, if you look here and there and everywhere you WILL come across the very same points you made re. N73 applied to e61... And I'll grant you this: ireland releases most new phones months and months behind UK and other parts of the world...annoying wait, but on the plus side: the firmware issues are usually sorted...

if i look here, there and everywhere, i dont see points. i see machines! hehehe. just kidding. am in the operating room. good for the guys in ireland. the phones they get have more stable firmwares. but its generally accepted that N series phones are more slow in their response due to the heaviness of their programs.

Yep.....Nokias they have an OS, and btw SE phones run on air...no OS whatsoever....of course they have OS, but its proprietary OS. And after owning both the N73 and K790, firstly the phone has to work as a "phone" first and then everything else. If the stupid phone wont play the ringtone if the music player is paused I dont see how it satisfies being a "phone", and besides that the Network is terrible, breaks up quite a bit, my phone may have been a lemon though. And I do miss the smartphone features of the N73 with the K790, but I guess you win some and you loose some. I suppose the P990 is the best bet since the 73/790 and P990 are now almost the same price

If i was you i would go for the N73 . Since the new firmwear release on that handset, sending a sms takes a few seconds, it does not take over a minute, my phone has never crashed at all since the new software update on this handset. You have a great camera and video quality. The N73 looks sexier in my opinon that the k800i, the k800i has like a heal on it, which looks odd and silly. The N73 looks sleek and sexy. You can install loads of great applications on this phone because it has a symbian operating system on it. With the K800i you are only limited to java applications. So overall IMHO the N73 is a great phone, it is the best phone available at the moment in terms of its camera if you like a 3.2 mega pixel camera, want a better camera then go for the best phone on the market which is the N95.

But if you like 3.2 megapixel camera then go for the N73.

PS if you get a N73 type in *#0000# to check the software the latest software is:

V3.0704.1.0.1
19-01-2007
RM-133

check out this great picture comparision on the following site, which shows the quality of the N73 camera:

http://mobile-review.com/review/nokia-n73-cam-en.shtml

if it does not show this software or it shows a previous date then go to the nokia website to update the software.

While the basic SE OS might be simpler and inherently more stable then the N73's Symbian s60, I got fed up with my K790i after one corrupt firmware and one EPROM corruption. Don't know if they're the same thing, but the phone still took calls with the first and gave me the white screen of death for the second. Two paid re-flashes with DaVinci Team sorted it, but the trust was gone. No idea how it happened or why, but I replaced it with an N73 and loved it. No crashes or freezes. I expect that with all the third-party software, games, etc, available for Symbian some of them won't be written correctly and will cause some of the crashes attributed to the N73's Symbian OS.

What I couldn't stand about my K790, and is the same on the K800, is the hump on the back for the camera with the shutter guard on top of that. Opens too easily in your pocket and can be broken far more easily than something flush-mounted to the camera's body. It's such a strange solution that it almost constitutes a design flaw. SE fixed it on the K810 apparently.
