after the latest FW most of us don't use the program anymore
As we emphasized many times, recognizing SMP only as a memory leak compensator implies ignoring about 95 % of its functionality. SMP has features like advanced task handling, file management and system monitoring, not to mention its floating icon that provides the available most convenient way of managing programs. All these unique features are independent of the firmware and its potential memory problems.
nothing is perfect, not even in the world of programming ... Same goes for the people who created SM
That's absolutely true. We don't say SMP is void of problems. But we say that it does not restart the phone and does not prevent making phone calls. The vast majority of SMP users has no such problems at all.
I found that SM uninstalled, the phone became more stable ... i installed SMP again, and the problems started happening again
We still suggest such experiences originate from some kind of coincidence and the true reason is not SMP. We are committed to correct any problem in SMP as soon as it is made precisely documented and reproducible by those who experience the problem.
@vincebiogiving the error code 821(iirc) ... Im a little dissapointed you never got back to me about that
Sorry if we overlooked your report. Can you please remind us what was the problem.

Frankly, I think SMP is one of the most stable if not the single most stable software there is to compliment my P990. Though with organizer R4B03, SMP did cause restarts to improve performance while using its file manager to open video files, that was about the only thing that triggered a restart. The problem has since been addressed with the latest version and on R5A17, it is truly compatible and 100% problem free- at least on my phone. I don't deny there may be problems caused by SMP, but that would only be because it is installed on a faulty phone or on a faulty firmware

Okay after my reflashing yesterday :
The phone manages to stay 'on' without any hanging, and no restarts at all for almost a day.
Five minutes back, it restarted again !!

This whole issue of 'restarts' is very difficult to solve directly here.....
This is because:
1. Phones Firmwares are can be different.
2. Users additional applications installed on phone is or could be different.
3. User usage profile E.g. how and what they do with the phone ever day is probally different.
4. The amout of RAM used by the calendar/Contacts and storing Emails and messages all change how much memory the phones firmware gets to use.
5. Using applications which directly impact with the phones base memory and operation, which is also be used with Symbian which was never designed to have these type of programmes running could cause issues. Operating systems don't like being messed with.
Bearing all this mind, the solution to 'restarts' which is the firmwares way of saying to you I have little memory left (or I think something is sick) is the only safe thing to do. it is the better option to Windows 'blue screen of death' etc.
Tracking down if it is the phone or firmware is simple. Reset with latest version of the firmware, and DON'T put anything else on the phone.
Keep a watch using the status screen to see what memeory is running. check that if you are not wanting to run an application that is in memory then use the task manager and stop it.

True but nevertheless you provided quite a good summary of the possible reasons.
Using applications which directly impact with the phones base memory and operation ... could cause issues.
This kind of interference is impossible to do on the current Symbian versions which are rather way overprotected against such interventions.

These are exactly the same, except that on the phone you are not required to press a key before rebooting.

Yes, indeed a systematic approach is needed to find out why the phone as a whole misbehaves. Hoewever, bear in mind that it's not only the hardware and the firmware what count, but any extra applications as well that you are running.

Very true Lisa... as I said memory and 'extra' applications are the usal suspects here.
Not being an expert... but it concerns me that applications to control memory are being used knowing that Symbian is doing it best to stop the same applications messing with its memory etc. To me it seems a conflict which will only end in disaster.
But having said that some people are working with the application with no problems... wonder what they are doing different is I suppose the question people are asking here.
