Free MMS = can't charge for it yet!
Cross network charging agreements is bottle neck at the moment. Expect T-Mobile and O2 to be the first to offer network-to-network MMS

Still not that useful unless ALL the U.K. networks share MMS at the same time.

You can get cross-operator MMS if you bypass the operator MMSC.
The problem is that many operators are configuring mobile phones with settings for MMS where the GPRS APN defined for the WAP profile that is used by MMS is a special APN that can only connect to a particular WAP gateway at the operator that only supports connecting to the operator MMSC.
So if you receive an MMS notification from outside the operator network, your phone can't retrieve it because the profile on your phone won't let you.
We've setup a free network independent MMSC service (and associated WAP gateway). I'd be curious what you folks out here think about it. You can give it a try at
http://www.nowmms.com. Basically you just point your phone to our MMSC ... and if necessary, you can use our open WAP gateway. (In many cases, you can still go through the operator WAP gateway, as long as the standard operator WAP gateway supports SAR ... segmentation and re-assembly.)

Hi, sorry the link isn't working because the forum software included the "." at the end of the sentence in the link.
The correct URL is
http://www.nowmms.com ...
