The $$$$ of the P990 of a brand new one at present is less than 50% during it's initial release . . . I know that 's P-series $$$$ during it's initial release is as high as the Mt. Everest . . . if there's nothing much difference betweenthe P1 and the P990, then I guess common-sense DICTATES that it's very IDEAL to get a P990 - NOW !!!

@JoJo

But the differences are huge, the 64mb Ram is a major improvement and badly needed as is the the shortcuts on the home screen both of these alone make using the P1 a much better experience. Even though the P990 is extremely cheap now it has been out nearly a Year, why buy something that you know is missing features when you can buy a similar device that is greatly improved is MO.

@dog - Yeah, I concur mate . . . if we are after the $$$$ it's very ideal to get one - NOW (pronto !!!!) . . . but if we are after those NEW-features . . . I guess we have to correlate if it's worth the BUY with it's initial release $$$ also, the price of the P1 will take some time before it simmers-down . . .

Regarding question 1) :
You can handle it with the same ease as any entry level/mid range phone with flip closed. With flip on, most (about 95%) of the tasks you can pretty much access through the jogdial and back button with 1-2 presses which is a snap, provided that you customize the phone to your settings, and the qwerty board is a pleasure to use if you know how to use them (thumbs inward so your fingertips become vertical). Like I said, you can access most of the things with a single hand in ease, it takes some familiarising with your device before it becomes a breeze though

P1 was supposed to be the stable version of P990 with the increased resolution, RAM capacity, added BB connect, and reduced size. if you wanted a more stable smartphone get the P1. oherwise you would need to always update firmware toachieve better memory management

Just a point.. It depends on how you plan an getting it too. If you are buying with no 'help' from a provider, then the P1 will be a LOT more expensive initially and so then the P990i represents a bargain. However if you are subsidized by a provider then it would make sense to wait and get the P1..

Couple of questions for y'all with regards the form factor:

1. How easy is it to use the P990 with a single hand - without the flip or with?

2. Can anyone who has used the M600 confirm how easy to get used to the keyboard is - especially to message with one hand for example? How would that compare with the P990?

I am very fortunate in that I own a P990i, W950i, and a N95.

I personally find the P990i with the flip one of the best of my phones I have ever used one handed (The P910i was even better as it had a 5 way jog wheel)

The W950 is also good but needs some slick hand work to use it truly one handed.

The N95 is also excellent but no touch screen really limits it for my purposes

The P990i is currently very good value and personally I have doubts as to how quickly we shall see the P1 available to buy.

I would say make sure you buy a NON branded unit, originaly my P990i was a Vodafone unit and they had crippled it with their gastly modifications it was slow and bug ridden and the FW updates flowed like glue!!! but once I had it unlocked and the firmware change to worldwide generic1 it has become a truly indispensable business tool go get one now
