Do those of you having problems have a serial and/or parallel port in your PC ? I'd guess not from what I've found. Open device manager and see if you have a PORTS (COM and LPT) section - if you haven't then you need to add one: go into control panel, add hardware, next, install from a manually selected list, DOUBLE CLICK Ports (COM & LPT) - select standard types in the left box and Communications port in the right hand box. Click next and continue until the end of the wizard.

If you've already installed the PC Suite, and drivers, connect your phone - it should now be detected. If you haven't go ahead and install - your phone should be detected and the drivers installed when you first connect it - you may need to disconnect and reconnect it to then be recognised.

When it's working open device manager and remove the phoney device you added from the Ports section.

It seems as though SE have forgotten to allow for motherboards which are all USB when writing their software and it doesn't or can't create the necessary entries in device manager correctly.

(Working with my K800 and PC Suite 2.10.34 - I will try my partner's K850i when she gets back home)

Blast ! Didn't go as well as I thought - now CAPI Helper fails when I remove the phone, rather than when I attach it

I've tried running epmworker.exe (the CAPI helper executable) in compatability mode (XP, 2000) but it doesn't help so I've given up and uninstalled PC Suite yet again. It's rather disconcerting that Kaspersky IS 6 thinks there's a trojan in the uninstall routines - it's warning noise goes right through me - I'd be happier if that didn't happen.

So, it does look like it's a Sony Ericsson problem, rather than a Microsoft one - anyone any idea how to get in touch with someone relevant in SE to get this resolved ?
