QVGA I think its fine for them to have phones. At that age they go out and about on ocassion and I think they need phones for contact for home. + its ok to have to contact there mates and listan to there favourite music. Going as far as a 12 yr old having sex is taking it to the next level. I think its fine for kids at that age to have a phone.

But as far as a 13 yr old having a nokia n95?!! I aint so sure

N95 with a 13yr is a classic case of technology fallen into wrong hands.

I think tha'ts ok, because you knew what you were paying for. The thing is, the majority of kids might tell their parents to buy them high end phones because of the advertisements. I know it's cool, but do they really need all the high end features? Mostly just talk and send sms. I wonder what would SonyEricsson would say about this. When producing 'youth phones', do they have in mind the 12yr olds, or guys about 15/16yr?

Also it can be missused, or even not taken good care of (with maturity), it could get stolen (kids being easier victims) or mistreated. Even more, the phones could not be used to their full potential, and that is a bit sad to see.

I think a w800 would be cool for a kid that age. What more features would they use? GPRS?

I see several potential problems with younger children owning high end phones.

Firstly, bullying. Owning a High end phone could give a child reason to bully other children with lower end phones, if they were so inclined. Bullys do not need much of a reason as it is.

Secondly, theft. Kids have a tendency to show their toys and gadgets off quite a lot, increasing the chances of them having them stolen.

Thirdly, misuse. I think the recent happy-slapping craze says it all really.

I do think that younger children should carry mobile phones, mainly for safety reasons but I also see no problem with them using them in moderation to contact friends. But you don't need a high end phone to do those things, that's all.

Yeah you score top marks with that mate. I buy most my stuff myself, but get things like My xbox and Phone for Birthday/Christmas. Most people i know just waste money on credits texting pointless messages like 'U K?' at school when your gonna see them in five minutes anyway. I Bought the N73 for the Camera (holidays, selling stuff etc) MP3, and Video Call, but then im on a mobile phone forum talking about it so its no surprise i use my phone.

Owning a good phone is as good as having a good car when your an adult.
