I really doubt Nokia are either worried or care about what SE are planning they already have their new phones coming N81/N82 and by early next Year will start using OMAP Series 3 chips in their new devices and i seriously doubt they are waiting to see what SE are doing before working on them either.
Unfortunately for us all the days when Ericsson or SE led and the others tried to catch up are long gone it is SE that are now lagging way behind the others such a shame for what once was such a great company.

It was also a great company that was incurring massive financial losses, quarter after quarter after quarter. They couldn't go on pandering to the tiny number of P800/P900i/S700i users while at the same time running the company into the ground financially. Whats the point of that?
R&D takes millions of pounds of investment. Where does all this money come from when the company was running at a loss for years? The JV wasn't a bottomless pit and Ericsson made that quite clear on many occasion.
The K750i/K800i/K810i/K850i are big money earners for SE, that at the same time, keep the vast majority of its end users satisfied and bring the money needed to develop the high-end phones we want to see.
Something had to change and if it meant a climb down from its high-end perch then thats better than having no company at all IMO.
If whats rumoured to be around the corner is true, then we won't be waiting much longer to see the return.

@Dogmann
By the time the P3i is released, Nokia will probably have a N95 successor out, and will again topple SE in specifications.
I'd agree that SE is not doing as much as it once was in terms of high end phones, but as goldenface has said, it's not what they want to do anymore. Their strategy is to make more money and increase volume, which is what they're doing.
And I don't believe that going head to head with Nokia in terms of outdoing each other in specification is best for the company. They can't beat Nokia at what they're best at - it's all down to the fact that Nokia is a bigger company.
SE is doing what it must for the long term, and that's to build a solid foundation. It's not worth it for them to please a relatively small consumer base, in a market which is already nigh impossible to tackle, due to Nokia's dominance.

Hi all,
I never suggested that SE should or has to go head to head with anyone but they do need to offer their customers at least already established technologies and not updating specs is really not the way to keep or attract new customers. While some of you say these things are unimportant if that's true why do Cybershot phones get HSDPA but not smart phones were it really would offer the greatest benefit that is the most illogical decision i have ever seen. I mean lets get real here Motorola come to UIQ3 late and launch a device that is way ahead of anything SE have now or even coming just what is going on.
As to by the time the P3i comes Nokia will have a replacement well seeing as the P990 true replacement is only due mid to late 2008 Nokia will have realeased several devices by then. The new N81/N82 will be here later this year and are way ahead of the K850/W960 and all. By the time the P3i or whatever arrives Nokia will be using the OMAP3 chip in it's devices and if the rumours are true will also have Touchscreen devices and that will attract the last bastion of SE users that need a Touchscreen.
Although recently the way SE have treated their users is doing them more damage than not having the latest tech. Releasing far from ready for market products and stopping support on less than Year old products M600. Taking 2 months at a time to release new Firmware and nearly a year later still not having resolved the issues Announcing no more support for the P990 that only got reversed due to the unprecedented outcry from their very unhappy customers is not the way to keep your loyal customers in fact recent events have turned more of their users to other manufacturers than you would of thought possible. Unfortunately we are not talking about individual users either but people that are responsible for implementing devices for whole companies as they are not prepared to take the flack for badly working and supported devices that they are responsible for. The competition must be wetting themselves with laughter by now.
Like most of you i used to love Ericsson and then SE and just find what has happened over the last Year so sad SE's name is mud and stands for nothing good any longer IMHO. If you read the many Forums you will see this is not just MO or wishful thinking but is what many are proclaiming. People no longer trust SE and trust is not easy to get back once lost as i said even people that up to the announcement of no more support had forgiven SE for the problems with their devices and believed it would eventually be resolved have had enough. These people where core SE supporters and if you lose them and their recommendation's you really are in serious trouble.

@k850 successor
You really can't be serious wait till half way through next Year for specs that i have now and am enjoying now. By then Nokia will be using OMAP3 chips and even further advanced then they are now, plus how can i seriously consider any company that has such little respect for their customers and treats them with such contempt.
To be honest i am still quite surprised at the amount of people that are still prepared to consider SE at all. Many have left and vowed not to return and who can really blame them. It will take a really extraordinary device from SE for me to to return and never would i consider being an early adopter of any SE device as they have proved themselves to be untrustworthy in the extreme and that really is very sad.
