U shape doesnt necessarily mean good bass. Its the first bar from left thats for bass.

The "U-shaped" equalizer settings is not so unnatural at all. A normal human ear is most sensitive in the mid-range frequency span, especially after some amount of age of it's owner, so raising the edges of the equalizer graph is quite OK. On the other hand, the more you divert from the +/-0 settings of the equalizer, the more distortion is possibly added. Setting five equalizer values to form a u-shaped graph, will not necessarily render a smooth frequency graph.
Most of the time, the total sound experience is a combination of many factors, the quality of the music player, the quality of the source file, the equalizer settings, the quality of the earphones, and last but not least surrounding noise. I use the HPM-70 earphones, which I find deliver a very good sound quality.

i can tell you guys this, when i put my (k810i) equlizer at "auto" Bass, and then flip over to manual settings:

1 bar: full
2 bar: 5
3 bar: 2
4 bar: 7
5 bar: full

i get a better sound (as well bass sound). good enough for me.
