If you do a lot of text input then P1i is better (unless you can type fast with T9). E65 is much easier to carry around and use and have more 3rd software support. Web browser is also better in E65. Video rec is slightly better in E65. P1i has better still photo but still mediocre compared to K800i quality.
Wifi-G support on E65 will give you less headache when using hotspots due to fact some hotspots dont support the obsoleted wifi-B standard implemented in P1i.

If price and budget is a concern, I guess the e65 would be the better choice. But if money is not an issue, I guess the p1i would be the better choice. The e61i and the e90 would be better phones to consider if you are looking for a Smartphone. The e65 is a smartphone but it's more of a call and sms kind of a Smartphone.
I am a p1i user and my wife has an e65. I love the e65's very clear screen, easy WLAN connectivity, and form factor. But I certainly appreciate p1i's compatibilty with my Macs at home. The e65 is still unrecognized with iSync, while the p1i works well with the application.

it aint like i wanna keep it, i just dont like erasing them, because 90% of my text messages contain some sort of information or whatever that i might have to relate later when i need it or im just stupidly bored that i am readin my old messages, i think it's just a "spoiled by Gmail" habbit.
i want the P1i badly, but i know that ima be a bit dissapointed with it because of little things.
i really do hate sayin it, but in my opinion S60 (my e65)phones are much more stable compared to SE smartphones no matter how much we wanna keep our eyes shut on these disadvantages.
P.S. Im pretty positive that ill end up buyin p1i anyways cuz it rocks

I think P1 is not worth to upgrade if you have P990i. If I were you, I will save some money for N95 8G.

2. Price is very expensive for what it offers. P1i brings nothing new to the scene except that now it is not crashing all the time like P990 was. E65 is much better value and looks better.

I haven't much faith in my E65 as ive had that many faults with both of them, but it seems to be working fine now it was fixed.

I had to use a WM for the first time during a weekend and THAT is user unfriendly.
I kept trying to use the scroll wheel with my thumb. Instead I had to use the stylus 100% of the time which was very annoying.
The UIQ3 may not be the friendliest of the interfaces, but is one of the easiest to learn using.
Maximum 3 soft buttons on the bottom of the screen (used with the finger), clickable contrlols are predictable and the menus only popup from one place.
Status bars always visible, task manager alwasy accessible, etc.
Holding the phone with the left hand, the scroll wheel is the most confortable way to scroll the options, and with the other free hand you can use the P1 cursors to move horizontally, return key to select the option, delete key to delete messages, etc.
There is also a return key to return to the previous application or standby screen.
80% of the time I even don't use the stylus!
Sorry, but I can't agree with your accessment that UIQ 3 is unfriendly.

No E65 ca replace a Touch Screen phone -- remember that!
Looks?!? lol The P1 is not a Swatch wristwatch...
It's a tool!
Besides, the P1 looks very professional, and maybe you don't know that the aluminum "looks" is in fact a true aluminum armour.
