My first phone was an Ericsson DH618 analogue non-GSM phone in 1998.
Then I became a Philips fan for a while (2 x Ozeo,
Az@lis) before buying Z600 (for wife), S700 (for son), K700, V800, V630 for me.

Ericsson never interested me because they were square and ugly things although I was tempted by the SH888 as it was one of the first to provide the ability to connect from my palm or ipaq to the internet to check emails etc

I briefly had an Ericsson GA628 and then a T65 and a T68m before SE. In the past few years though I think I have owned most of the Ericsson models made, I still have a few including T39m's in all three colours.

The SH888 was indeed IMHO the first real Data phone as had and the infrared built in before that was the DI 27 that attached to the bottom of your phone. That really takes me back as even infrared was really unstable and buggy in those days getting things to work which was Plug and Play soon became known as Plug and Pray.
Mobile data really has come long way since then as initially data speeds were just 9,600kbps and it was a great jump when we got 14,400kbps by the end of this Year we will have at least 3.6mbps or even 7.2mbps although there aren't many devices that can handle this yet.
But i do have to agree that Ericsson phones where not the nicest looking back then but they were quality with B&O speakers and a build quality that was beyond reproach. How i would love to see the Ericsson of that time reemerge with today's available technology.
