Hey damedavid / Mars Mountain,
Hadnt been online for quite a while, due to Diwali, back here in India. Nice to see someone who has actually ordered the card
I guess I myself will go in for a 4 GB upgrade, since I do not really have use for the 'other 4GB'. Was planning to buy it just to boast that I have the biggest card memory......

I was saving up for a new mp3 player, but if the 8 gb card works I'll use the phone instead.

you can reformat the 8gb card and give it a bigger allocation size and the 8gb works just fine in the k800i ( tested by me ) i have a 4 gb right now and 8 and both work fine, the 8 gb didnt work that well till i gave it a bigger allocation size and yes it is a little slower if you have the card maxed out. but then again remember its 8 GB of info!!!!!
for most people a 4 GB card should be more than enough and it works flawlessly in the k800i...

....thanks for all that info, buddy. However, I didn't understand one term, and that is the allocation size. Which allocation size are you talking about? And how to change that? I currently have a 64MB M2
and didnt see any options anywhere in the phone for changing the 'allocation size'. Your help in this regard will be highly welcome. Thanks.

I've got a k800i. just got a SanDisk 8gb Memory Stick Micro M2.
Inserted the card and went to Phone Status. Card memory shows something like 3492 MB. That does not equal 8 GB.
Connected the phone to the pc in File Transfer Mode. It's mounted as H:
Tried formating the card under DOS to use 32 allocation units:
format h: /a:32K
Same reading under Phone Status.
Tried formating the card under DOS to use 64k allocation units:
format h: /a:64K
WARNING! The cluster size for this volume, 64K bytes, may cause
application compatibility problems, particularly with setup applications.
The volume must be less than 2048 MB in size to change this if the
default cluster size is being used.
Proceed with Format using a 64K cluster (Y/N)? n
Decided not to do that.
Tried /a:16K
no luck.
Anyone gotten their card to show up at 8gb in Phone Status?

I also have the 8gb M2 card, but use it on a W800. I also had the same problem. I started a small topic on this.
This is what I wrote down.
"I just got my 8gb m2 card, and when I inserted it with the adapter, it says 3574mb(3.5gb) memory remaining after I formatted it in the phone. When I connect my phone to my computer, the USB mass storage says there are 7.5gb remaining, which is to be expected. Not a big problem because it still works with the phone, but I believe that the w800 can only display up to 4gb in phone status, even though it can accept a memory card higher than that."
"Good news. The 8gb m2 works flawlessly with my w800. Ive filled the card to its capacity. Its just that when you check memory status of the card, the phone reads it in 2 halves.
For example, each half is 4gb. Lets say you only fill up 1gb, the card will display 3gb left in memory status. It is showing how much memory is remaining in the first half. If you use up 5gb, the phone will also display 3gb remaining, but it is displaying the second half of the memory, since the first one has been used up."
It's a lot to read, but try it for yourself.

Thanks for the info. That is good news. I will fill up the card and see if my phone behaves as like yours.
Guess I'll reformat using 32K allocation units first, as I have read that that speeds up reading.

I got my 8GB M2 card today!! Felt like I was waiting forever.
I was a bit worried when I saw the phone showing the card as "4095MB free", (not formatted), but your posts have cleared that up.
I haven't tried filling it up, but I'll do it according to earlier posts. Thanks again.
