Just a question, my P1i successfully configure gmail IMAP, but when email being push to my P1i, P1i don't have any alert to the email. Is it normal or another bug?

Well, it should as it's push email; it should notify you instantly. I like my POP3, it'll stay like this.

Instant notification on an IMAP server requires the IMAP IDLE feature on the IMAP server. Gmail as well as many other IMAP providers support this. The P1 and P990 support IDLE, so in thery instant notification should work. However, the internet connection must be continuously connected for it to work. That is not always easy on a mobile phone!

and not cheap, if you pay by the bytes or per hour. also the battery, continuous connection means more battery power consumption.

i finally got everything to work and i like getting email instantly. im on the 5.99 tzones here in the states so im not paying by bytes. there hasnt been any really difference in battery drain for me. the only thing i dont like if when u try to delete the mail it can take awhile to delete because it has to connect again to delete it and send it to the archive in the web account. sometimes this sits there forever trying to delete.

Yes...But my P1i don't have any icon or sound alert when new email pushed into the device...
I will reboot the P1i tomorrow to test it again

First time poster, long time reader. Thanks guys for a great forum that usually helps me alot, but this time I have ran into an error I cant figure out...

I have followed the instructions from gmail and what have been posted here but I still cant get the IMAP conf to work on my P1i.

When I am trying "Get & Send" I will get a error message saying: "Activation rejected" even though I have activited IMAP on my gmail account.

Anyone got any suggestion?

Thanks alot,
Johan

One good news and bad news..

Good news: After I reboot the device, my P1i will have icon to alert me when new mail pushed! Great!
Bad news: My setting is active always-on push mail from 9:30am to 16:30pm, but this morning my phone didn't start the data connection to push mail..I needs manually Get and Send to tigger the always-on function..

Sigh!

So lucky I live in HK, the data tariff is "reasonable", HKD100 can got 100MB data usage..

It happens to me when they enabled the IMAP protocol of my account in the 1st days of it. after a very short time they deactivated. but that didn't take long. so they reactivated again.
check your Gmail account setting on the web. may be your case is similar to mine.

I too have found this, sometimes the connection simply does not start. I haven't tried with the new firmware though.
