@fatreg

Some of the things on your list are British rather than English. My list of why you should be glad to be English would include:

1.) The English language - which is now the global standard for trade, science and entertainment.
2.) The Magna Carta and Habeus Corpus.
3.) The greats of English literature - Shakespeare, Chaucer, Wordsworth, etc.
4.) The invention of sports such as rugby, modern football and cricket.
5.) The beauty of England, which is amongst the most beautiful countries in the world.
6.) A recorded history that spans two millennia and a prehistory that spans 700,000 years and includes such monuments as those found at Stonehenge and Avebury.
7.) Great contributions towards science such as Sir Isaac Newton's development of the Three Laws of Motion and his work on calculus.
8.) A rich mythology that includes arguably the most famous legend in the West, the Arthurian legendarium. (This particular example is not specific to England, but it is an important part of England's mythology.)
9.) The Westminster system of governance - developed in England and later the United Kingdom as a whole the Westminster system is now used around the world.
10.) Some of the greatest music and musical artists in history - Elgar, Holst, Vaughan Williams, Britten, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, etc. (I realise many of the artists I mentioned were born in the United Kingdom and would therefore be considered British, but they were also born in England and are thus also English).

Seeing as I am here I might as well give a Scottish top ten too.

1.) Literature - some of the greats of world literature have been Scottish; Burns, Sir Walter Scott, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, J. M. Barry, etc.
2.) The invention of sports such as golf, shinty and curling.
3.) Music - The Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Belle & Sebastian, Snow Patrol, etc are Scottish. Not to forget the bagpipes, which are now used around the world by police and military forces.
4.) Contributions to science and some of the greatest scientists in the world including Lord Kelvin who developed the Kelvin Scale; John Logie Baird who invented the television; Robert Watson-Watt who invented radar; Napier who invented logarithms; the first cloning of a mammal, etc.
5.) The most beautiful landscape in the world (I might be biased here, but come to Scotland and I think you will agree! ).
6.) Whisky - no need to say more here!
7.) A long and varied history that takes in Roman invasions, Viking raids, English conquest and civil war. The flag of Scotland is one of the oldest in the world.
8.) A wealth of myth and legend including the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie); Gaelic mythology and Hebridean myths such as the kelpie.
9.) Great military renown - the phrase 'The Thin Red Line' was coined after a military action by the 93rd Highland Regiment of the British Army defeated a Russian cavalry charge at the Battle of Balaclava, the Scots regiment wore red uniforms and was only two men deep, hence 'the thin red line'. Bill 'The Mad Piper' Millin played the bagpipes on Sword Beach on D-Day as the rest of his unit charged the beach under heavy German fire. Scots make up a large percentage, if not the majority, of the SAS.
10.) Education - Scotland was the first country in the world since ancient Sparta to implement public education. Scotland produces 1% of the world's research with 0.1% of the world's population and has some of the oldest universities in the world.

Dash it, I might as well give a top ten British list too!

1.) A stiff upper lip.
2.) Hope when all hope has been lost. A pig headed refusal to acknowledge defeat and carry on regardless.
3.) Some of the most important scientists and contributions to science in history.
4.) The spread of democracy and liberty.
5.) A sense of fair play and self-depreciation.
6.) The monarchy and Her Majesty the Queen.
7.) Parliamentary democracy.
8.) Queuing.
9.) A long and immensely interesting history that covers almost every corner of the globe.
10.) Almost unfathomable contributions to culture - sport, literature, the arts, music, etc.

Can't think of many.

1. The language.
2. The £ for however long we have it left.
3. The NHS.
4. The forces.

That would be it really! Can think of many for why it is rubbish.

Nice stuff scotsboy, however there is always one thing that really annoys me about the Scots, Whenever England play other nations at sport, the majority of Scots always support our opponants.
Yet We English kinda always wish that Scotland would win just for once, it always seems that the only Scottish victory, is an English defeat

Again this is probably more British, but our ironic sense of humour! Best in the world

Edit: as I'm guessing this is for a French lesson, you could put in something about the fact we pretty much always beat the French at wars!
