^^ or if the balance permits.. get some Grado cans you won't beat them with a stick ever, they might look old fashioned but by lord do they work!

I'm currently looking at a 160gb Classic iPod, I know it's big and whatnot but atm I have 112gb in music, podcasts and videos in iTunes, let alone TV shows......

@Fatreg

Yeah those Grado's are an awesome bit of kit but as i only use the iPod when in the car or whilst walking Otis they wouldn't be that practical and at home i have the JBL Invader 4.1 that just plugs in the 3.5 jack on the iPod and sounds really quite amazing but then that's JBL for you i think they cost me about £80 off E-Bay ages ago now as i used to use them as my PC Sound system. There not as freaky looking as the Creature but really do produce amazeing sound you can see what they look like and the spec's here

4.1 surround sound though Marc!

Audiophiles would eat you alive! Music is only ever recorded is stereo and as such should over ever be played in stereo!

I'm looking at getting some Grados when I go to NYC in July, I would happily walk round town with them on!

I have a 5g 30gb white Ipod Video. I was looking into an Ipod Touch but I don't think I'll bother Ok, so I don't even have 16gb on my current Ipod...but theres room for more and more music, videos and games.

While the Touch is really nice to look at, I don't think its worth the money right now and its a bit flash should you choose to take it out of your pocket. I'll think I'll stick with what I've got for now.

But then I'm not a Audiophile and hadn't really thought about it but it also plugs into the Laptop for Films and whilst not 5.1 gives very good results especially from the sub woofer. Actually i must find my Sony AV amp and get a 3.5 to 2 phone plug lead as that would be even better for films and TV shows. As i know have a Rapid share account and there is just so much good stuff out there. Just watching Season 2 Heroes and Season 8 CSI Las Vegas, and some other stuff not close to being here yet.

@Dogmann: Firstly, calm it down... I know you enjoy a good argument. But you seem angry. I tried to make my post good natured, can't you?

Dogmann said: I very sorry and i don't know where you have got your information from but i have never read such a bunch of rubbish in ages as for this,
- "Sure, iPods look alright, but they are the most featureless MP3 players for their price on the market. And the most restrictive (in my opinion)!" -
How about quantifying this sweeping statement then, featureless just what do expect it to do then? it's for listening to Music or watching Podcasts and Video's have you actually seen just how many options you have to choose as to how you want to choose your Music you really are having a laugh on this one.

Me: Ok, here in NZ iPods don't come cheap (and he just said that in Bangladesh they are not cheap either!). And considering they don't even come with radio and no recorder and you can't drag and drop, my point must be slightly valid. Also, using iTunes, you must be a member just to get free album art... I find that plain odd. And I did say "in my opinion". It may not be yours.

Dogmann said: - "Do you actually have 80GB+ of music and videos to put on it? (thats my whole computer hard drive worth of music) If no, then why pay for it?" -
Just because you don't have a lot of Music Videos or Podcasts doesn't mean anyone else doesn't plus you can have all your pictures on it as well. Which even if you are not going to use means you have yet another place where all your stuff is backed up if you want it. It is better to have the space and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Me: I asked whether he had that much music. I didn't say its not possible that he does. If he doesn't, like most people I know, then he may not want to pay for all that memory. I have around 1GB of music which suits me fine, I have 4 times that amount of memory, so I'm safe for a good while.

Dogmann said: - "The Touch is a whole lot of money for 8-16GB... Do you really want that touch screen? Is it worth the money to you? " -
Well this i partially agree with you on but if you want not just Music and Video but the ability too browse the web to and in a superior way to most devices that's the price that has to be paid. Again just because you don't want to doesn't mean anyone else doesn't or shouldn't does it?

Me: Sure, you're right there mate. I was just saying its a thing to consider.

Dogmann said: - "Do you want an MP3 player that's that BIG (talking about either of them)?" -
I didn't realise you were one of the little people from Ireland as if you seriously consider them big you must be tiny then.

Me: Come on, they really are in the larger sized sector of the MP3 player market. Mine is half the size at least! And it still plays video, etc. Once again, I was just saying size is a thing to consider.

Dogmann said: - "Do you want flexibility in what formats you play? (then don't get an iPod) " -
Care to explain what you mean or do you just believe it only uses one format that is DRM locked? as if so you really don't have a clue do you.

Me: Ok I just checked an iPod magazine and it supports more than I thought. Perhaps I was thinking of an earlier generation. I didn't think it played one format. My bad though, sorry!

Dogmann said: - "Do you want something the same as EVERYONE ELSE? (then get an iPod) " -
Well just maybe we aren't all as shallow as you appear to be and actually buy our devices by what they do for us not just by brand or looking cool some of us perhaps have more depth to our character than that. You really shouldn't apply your low standards to all others.

Me: Its not shallow at all. Some people do prefer to have something a little different to the majority of people. Something that stands out.

Dogmann said: Now what a surprise you got yourself a Sony with a whole 4gb which if it's enough for you good for you but it shows just how little Music and Video you have then as one film in Mp4 H.264 is over 500mb and a well encoded track @256kbps AAC is around 5mb plus. But i would guess you use low bit rate Mp3's to fit more on your devices and think the supplied headsets are just brilliant.

Me: Yeah well not everyone buys an iPod for playing video. Even my PSP screen is rather small for video playback. Perhaps he doesn't want an MP3 player for that. Most people will buy an MP3 player for just that, playing MP3s!
Nope, my Sony came with sh*t earphones. I went out and picked up some $100NZ (about 53 Euro) earphones from the Sony shop the day after my purchase. Now those are good earphones. My MP3s aren't high bit rate, but they are not low either.

Dogmann said: - "iPods have been tested to have worse sound quality than other players especially because of those terrible earphones. If sound quality matters to you, and you want an iPod, pick up some high-quality earphones while you're at it." -
Again yet another sweeping statement how about some facts to back this up or is this what you have heard from Sony fans so it must be true. The only bit i agree with is the supplied headphones are rubbish but then this is true of all players there headsets are adequate at best and that includes your Sony Player to.

Me: OK, a quick check through a few reviews on Cnet revealed that iPods have "good audio quality, but not the stellar audio we were hoping for in an expensive product." I agree about earphones on all MP3 players. Cnet also said you should buy some better earphones, but I can't find that quote at the moment! Like I said, I replaced mine. Oh and I heard nothing from Sony fans. I shop for myself and am not a "Sony fan". Sony was just what i bought. Sony is a good brand, so is Apple.

Dogmann said: Now you say how terrible Itunes is yet use a Sony that's is freaking hysterical.

Me: Yep, you realise Sony have dropped SonicStage huh? Its all drag and drop now. Which, TO ME, is more useful and easier. You may love iTunes. Good on ya, I love it for playing my music... Just not for transferring everything over!

Dogmann said: Now before you say i love Apple or anything so stupid this is my first Apple product and before i bought i looked at the HSW- A range of devices from Sony and they were flimsy the screen was titchy and the price stupid for 8gb of storage. My 5th Gen Ipod has great build quality 80gb of storage and a sound that blows the Sony out of the water and cost me £190.

Me: I'm glad you like it. I love apple! I have a MacBook computer and I wouldn't go for Windows again. I just have a bit of a love/hate relationship with iPods. I think they look great, I just don't believe in all the hype surrounding them.

Dogmann said: You can't judge a 5th Gen iPod's performance on what your Nano did and just how well did encode your Muisc and what headphnes did you use? as this two factors will effect how you Music Sounds as much as the devcie itself.

Me: Very true. "iPods have been tested to have worse sound quality than other players especially because of those terrible earphones. If sound quality matters to you, and you want an iPod, pick up some high-quality earphones while you're at it." - Thats all I said. And my quote from Cnet backs me up. You admit the earphones are crap too, I just said get new ones. Sure, there are worse players than an iPod!

"Honoured to have won BEST DEBATER" - Good work, you deserve it for sure

Oli.
