I went and saw this today, OMG, I am SO glad I paid moneyt o see this at a theatre, and in fact would have seen it again after going out to dinner if my mate hadn't be tired and wanted ot nick off home.

Totally trounces the first AVp (and picks up directly after it)

There are SFX but it doesn't go over the top on them, and in fact is more like the original 2 alien films than any other "aliens" film has been. (There's also a few little homages to each which as an aliens fan tickled me right down to my tingly bits )

Of the characters, what you get is a mash and for what screen time they have they're mostly rounded, with the one exception being the marine, they should have made her a little bit better. Nothing that distracted from the film though.

The films main stars are again the predator and the alien, in this case the predalien from the comics is finally in film form. As a comic fan of the aliens series, I was NOT dissapointed at all. The predator in this film probably should have had more film time, and maybe a directors cut will fix that. But that's just personal opinion.

Over all the film in my opinion was more than worth watching, had the right amount of action for an alien movie not set in the future, and with it's shoutouts to alien/aliens doesn't try to crap all over a series that's had a mixed amount of good and bad films. (I'm still on the fence about resurrection, I'm not particularly fond of it, 3 was of course crap, and the original AVP, mediocre (and yet still better than I am legend imo)

To save anyone else the wait, there is nothing at the end of the credits to give hint of a sequel or anything.

We did taz, except I enjoyed it and you never offered why you thought it was a waste of time ;P

To qualify: For the setting of the movie, I thought it was well done. It's an aliens movie, a pop corn movie, you go to chill, relax, laugh a bit and enjoy the action parts. It for filled all of this for me. I sat there and was not bored and didn't mind paying to see it. Again, I was buzzed that this movie also payed respect to aliens and alien, the only 2 other decent alien films. To a large degree this felt like aliens in a modern setting, just without the legendary aspect aliens had. (Yet not enough to say it sucked 95 minutes of my life away)

If you were expecting a historic cinematic masterpiece with a story that would be told through out the ages, well then.. Definitely not the movie I'd pick to for fill that (but then I'm a sci fi fan, and this was an enjoyable film to me)
