Also worth noting that S60 5th edition is backwards compatible and it also allows for geotagging.

Nokia and SE can easily kill the iphone as the iPhone is only available on O2 for 5 years!! The simple fact you can easily get the SE or Nokia iPhone equivalent on any network means the iPhone will never succeed as they can cost far less. £279 plus contract, no thanks. Nokia Tube on my network of choice for say £50 plus contract, yes please. Even though I shall be getting the G900 next.

info from stuff .tv
Pros Feature-packed, HSDPA, Nokia smarts
Cons Not available until 2009

PREVIEW Nokia's much-touted touchscreen phone has been the subject of wild web rumour and speculation since August last year, but it looks as if the iPhone-botherer is closer to reality than we thought.

Since the iPhone set the world alight, there hasn't been a worthy contender to its throne – the LG Viewty's touchscreen leaves a lot to be desired and the HTC Touch's TouchFlo is limited to certain screens.

It was always going to take a manufacturer with unrivalled handset experience and arguably the best interfaces in the land to take the battle to Apple – step forward the Nokia Tube.

So what will the Nokia Tube offer us? Well, it'll come packing Symbian’s S60 Touch, as predicted. The 16:9 screen will be bigger than the 3in offering on the iPhone, but this won’t be the complete rival to Apple we’ve all ben hoping for. That’s coming soon after the Tube’s launch, apparently.

We’re not looking at an N–series phone just yet, rather an ‘Xpress Media’ release which will sit alongside the Xpress Music cells released last year. A higher-specced N-Series will probably be released later next year.

Features–wise, the Tube is certainly more stacked than the current non-3G iPhone. There'll be EDGE, GPRS, HSDPA, WLAN, Bluetooth and GPS. The screen however, won’t be multitouch, but rather the haptic approach favoured by Samsung.

If you want one, you’re going to have to wait until Q1 2009, which should place around the time of next year’s Mobile World Congress.

You make it sound so easy and yet in reality its not. Apple have acheived what Nokia/SE have not been able to so far. Create a stable well built phone with perfect interface and literally no bugs. Nokia and SE fans on the other hand are always asking when is the next fw out?

I doubt Nokia will even match iphones interface in terms of usability until their 3rd touch screen phone. Tube isnt even meant to be their touch screen flahship so its not worth getting that excited about.

That's what I was sayin' above. Of all there is, quality is the answer to all troubles. And Nokia and SE didn't learn their lesson and their phones seem buggier than ever!

iPhone set a new standard so I'm happy that Nokia are making something similar since they realise what a good idea iPhone is. The Tube specs are excellent plus 3.5mm jack (one up on SE). My source tells me that the Tube is nothing compared to their upcoming phones. SE maybe in for a shock since they spend most of their efforts on average phones and recycling. Whats so difficult in putting in a 3.5mm jack?

Hi all

Well to me where this device is aimed makes perfect sense as i have said previously the smart phone is now being aimed far more for Multimedia use the days of the smart phone being primarily for Business users is over IMO.

I must say for their first device it seems to tick all the right boxes just over 100 grams, large screen, 3.5m jack, HSDPA for fast Data downloads or streaming. The only thing left to see now is it's price and when it is available, but there are many that are already at home with S60 and the apps they use and like that will IMO go for this over even the 3G iPhone.
