Sorry my comment about it being good, innit was my attempt at making a joke.

I've just got another W960i from work and done the firmware update and, my god, what a difference. It's flying and I'm happily playing music and messing around with email with no slow down.. and it's playing video at full quality.

Once again, proof as if it were needed, that the A200 platform is not capable of the tasks expected of it.

jcomms, may I ask what firmware are you using? I am looking for a replacement phone, what can you recommend? I am using k800 as of now. And I would love to have a walkman phone since my k800's acoustics was bad

I agree ... I LOVE the Media Manager, but its TOO slow to a point.

If you Start up your phone and RUSH to load anything saved on it ... it'll present a problem. Anyone every REMOVE a large (4/6/8GB) M2 card and reinsert and quickly look into Media Manager?

Ever notice it takes a while to "LOAD" all its content ... EVEN though a quick trip to any subfolder in File Manager will list all content immediately? I even tried turning off the Auto Rotation in Media Manager and barely a speed improvement. btw, I'm on a Rogers Wireless Branded K850i so my firmware - as of current is 2 revisions behind.

I love my K850i I've only had one reboot and I believe it was my fault as I rushed the phone to do something it wasn't intended to do during a disconnection. I consider myself lucky.

SE should consider the option to have the Media Manager Removed OR allow File Manager to load or playback Music functions (Walkman 3.0), Video playback (Video Player), picture viewer, etc with native components that actually provides the better experience if you know what I mean without using Media Manager as the interface.

However the better solution is the have SE's technical engineers PUSH for a faster & just as capable and efficient dual core ARM 9/11 cpu for these A2 phones in near production and future announced / developed A2 phones.

The media player is just badly coded, as the phone isn't that slow at doing other things. Older models like the K800 or W880 aren't that slow, so it's not as if the hardware can't cope (video playback on the W880 is better than the W890 for example).

Having seen the massive improvement on the most recent K850i firmware (making the phone SIGNIFICANTLY faster, although the media player wasn't improved by as much as other parts of the UI), and the massive improvements on the latest W960i firmware, SE can probably fix most of the problems.

But, although I don't want to go off on a tangent (there are other threads on Esato that have covered this), I do still want to say that I think SE shouldn't be releasing products before they're at the stage they are after 6-9 months.

The media manager is meant to act a bit like the iPod in so much as it builds a database of the music installed on the card and plays from that.

Where it differs from the iPod is that on the iPod the database is compiled and maintained by iTunes so the iPod doesn't need to do any scanning for music. Because the K850i does not work that way (it has no application to manage a database for it) it compiles the database on-the-fly and has to rebuild it after each reboot/shutdown.

The main problem with the phone is that because the hardware is so old and so much like the K800, the new A200 platform coupled with the fact it runs on a whole new version of Java really lags and doesn't run as quickly as it should.

I suspect once the hardware improves, the platform will be fine! It's just a pity the K850i had to be the runt of the litter!

The K850i is now a lot better, but the W890i seems to be a weird mix of firmwares. It has the new location services menu (and GPS support pre-installed) and the new NetFront browser with magnetic mouse pointer, but hasn't got some of the K850i improvements to the UI.

I do wonder how the development teams work to keep all the firmwares in sync when it comes to optimisations and bug fixes. I'm sure it's not easy, but already the A200 devices are a bit of a mish mash and it's hardly that old!!

I was also quite shocked that the audio popping that we had on the W800i has now reappeared on the W890i!

Is this a forum bout k850i or SE vs Nokia??LOL

i'm k850i user and im so much loving it.. i'm a faithful Nokia user ever since i firts owned a mobile phone back i high school. nokia is so user friendly and support both java and symbian platforms but SE is well know for their cybershot and walkman phones that is why i decided to give ot a try.

i was using n95 before the great about it is that is has wifi, a large display and support symbian which allows me to install apps for streaming tv shows but unfortunately the battery drains so fast which isthe biggest downfall.

im using k850i now which has a lot of bugs at first but the phone works great for me now especially with the modded camera and accoustic driver plus it can last up to 3 days.

k850i sound quality now is so much better compare to n95 plus the camera shots like dslr with the modded drivers..

I'm one of the victims of this A200 + Slower hardware, I own myself a C902 and previously owned a K550 , It's a pain in the a$$ to work with the C902 when it reminds me of the K550 (drools ) which is as I believe the fastest SE feature phone to date, It had a much faster CPU (ARM 9 @ ~200MHz) compared to ~150MHz of the C902.
The media manager is slower compared to the one had on the K550 ( @ W610) and running few java apps at once didnt slow down the K550 at all, while the C902 having a hard time running even Opera and Nimbuzz while playing music .
Not impressed SE
