Both PALM and RIM posted similar results so I still think its a lull. Don't be throwing away your SE chargers just yet. . .

RIM did EVERYTHING right. Analyst estimates on earnigs per share was THE ONLY thing wrong ... 1US Penny LESS, just 1 and their stock suffered. Also rumors of delays of the BB Bold launching on AT&T was completely unfounded ... cannot believe analysts fall for that shite.

Palm ... they should've been GONE long long ago ... I cannot believe their still afloat vs Motorola.

still has good cash reserves.

Recession (or its perception) is only in the USA as far as I'm aware. Add to that delay of the W760i getting on carriers is STILL present. Furthermore the recent dealings with UIQ going to the SYmbian Foundation just pretty much killed their sales hopes for 2QTR & 3QTR of Paris/BeiBei boosting those numbers. Now its back to the drawing board.

You cannot help feel that the current CEO is now the FALL GUY for but its NOT his fault. I just hope that the C905's development and production gets BUMPED surprisingly and un-officially announced by 1qtr Early ... August-Oct launch. THIS will help SE big!

W980 as well.

Se blames the drop in profit on the mid to high end phones, but the few low end phones they announce takes WAY too long to hit the markets, and I think thats whats pulling them under in combination with the lack of innovation lately...except maybe c905, but judging by the protos they may have hit a winning formula there, just hoping it wont take long to come to the market...

@carkitter

Sorry but what you say here is just factually incorrect,

"Sure, smartphone and multimedia is where its at ATM and SE are light in this area, but they always have been"

As whilst SE are currently light in this area as you put it they were once the leaders and brought us the first true Phone/PDA with the P800. They then followed this up with the P900/P910 and even then they were still ahead of the other players in the field. Really it is only since the P990 in 2006 along with UIQ3 that things have slipped along with since then there inability to upgrade the hardware and spec's of their smart phones which has seen them lag in this sector of the market.

The same goes for Multimedia as SE again once led in this but again due to mainly rehashing current products and not upgrading hardware they have fallen behind from where they once led. For so long i have seen people wanting VGA video recording and yet SE just won't implement it whilst those around it do.

SE is in the bad position it finds itself due to it's own lack of action as they have some of the most loyal users around. But when even they start to go elsewhere for their devices SE needs to take action and take it quickly there recent falls are really bad for the company that was once 3rd and growing and now 5th and still slipping.

Marc

SE are light in the area of Smart phones. They do the P-series and the M600 and thats it. The P-series consists of 5 phones each of which superceeded its predecessor. Nokia have more than 6 smart phones in thier range at any one time. The G-series is obviously a nod to Nokia that a Smart OS in mid range phones is needed.

I think you've elevated SE to an unreasonably high level based on 2 PDA models and are disillusioned they don't match your expectations. While everyone admits the P990 was a mess initially, its hardly surprising Nokia have used thier superior resources to overwhelm SE with multiple rivals.

Huh, you should forget about comparing SE to Nokia ! ! ! I know some people in here want to use every opportunity to insult the 'absolute/total' market leader, but that has little resemblance to reality. A donkey power should be compared to a horse's or a mule's and not to a elephant's ! I hope this makes sens to you Alcatel, LG and Sagem (SE's forgotten partner), are at the level you are talking about

First off, the economy (worldwide, it seems) is pretty much going down the tube, so this should come as no shock to anyone.

Secondly, I think we're still feeling the effects of the old CEO and the old strategy. SE recognizes they need to get their phones to market faster, and this is good--once their current line of phones makes it to market, I think there will be a turnaround, however slight. The X1 should prove popular, especially if it's sold through AT&T in the States (especially with no proper HTC Kaiser successor...the Touch Pro will not be sold by AT&T). The C905 should prove to be very popular too, and remove some people's sour taste after the K850. The James Bond movie due out soon should get people interested in SE again--dunno about anyone else, but the shallow consumer I am, I got interested in SE due to Casino Royale.

So, like I said, I think there will be turnaround by 2009.

Yeah, Casino Royale was a veritable feast for SE fans as besides all the Bond stuff and having a great plot, griity feel and for once some believable action scenes, we could also play 'spot the phone'. I have Casino Royale in my DVD collection. Can't wait for Quantum of Solace...

Nope! Should it?

I can compare SE phones with Nokia's if I want. Millions of people around the world do this everyday when purchasing a new phone. Esato has a compare phones section as does the VodafoneNZ website I visit often, and many other websites besides. Does your demand only apply to me, all SE fans or everybody? More to the point, does anyone care?

Yeah everyone was constantly comparing the n95 to k850i, even though one was a smart phone and the other a camera phone
