S60 designed for phone key input only? LMFAO! Oh please. ever heard of the NOKIA 5800XM S60 Touchscreen :)

Just stop laughing that loud, it took 7 years for them to develop a usable touchscreen interface, UIQ 2.0 was the mainstream UIQ version at that time, of course with full touchscreen support.
And anyways, I cannot buy 5800 since it is just an upcoming product, so, yes I heard about it, but it just another iphone clone with worse user interface..

Correct. Up to 3th edition FP2 at least..

Yeah, but we only heard, read and watched it, just like you.

The 5th edition is touch optimized and you might agree that it differs a lot from the latest non-touch UI version.

I can understand that Nokia fanboys are overly excited in these days, but praising a phone which isn't even out yet is just funny.

and knowing NOKIA they will NOT let their FIRST Touchscreen S60 be a disappointment, from what ive seen it looks great. and will support current s60v3 apps, but obviously it will have bugs which they will iron out unlike this other company.

If the 5800xm was just another iPhone clone it would be missing A LOT of basic features.

Now I have G900 but when 5800 is come I go for that...dont forget only 1 month to release..not like SE strategi...announce now and release 6 month later!!

why? for such price or even less I can get VGA 30 Fps and decent 3.2 mpx camera...3.2 inch screen and very powerfull Cpu..also TV out and 3.5 mm...8 gig memory card and more and more...

sorry guys ...dont want start nokia VS SE and I actually SE fanboy for at least 5 years but ...hey..this is our money that waste on failur SE products and dont get good deal...

nokia start VGA recording from 6280 (2005) if Im not mistaken...but now on end of 2008 we dont even see feauters phone like cyber-shot with VGA recording...only QVGA..even on high-end like C905-c902 along smartphones...well done SE!! only X1

nokia start use fast cpu from N90 ARM 9 and now with n95 8 gig and 5800 ARM11 and for sure on future even faster...but what SE done? all of you know dont need to repeat...

SE what do u think? really what do u think? u can countinue this plan to 2015? dont want change? ppls r blind? dont see other products like Omnia,N96,N95 8 gig,Innov 8,I7710,Iphone, more more more....

sorry guys...this is just my opinion...

this is sad news and it upsets me because i've just had one UIQ devive and i must admit it truely is a great device. i agree that SE have screwed themselves because of a lack of support.

but the fact is if the other devices do not meet the criteria of the user no matter what specs it has, it is of no use.

for me as tranced and trev have said the P1 has come into its own very recenctly. i feel as a device to suit my needs and there is nothing on the market that does meet my needs as well as the P1 does. and to this end there is no need for me to move away despite the lack of official support

i would love to have an updated UIQ with updated specs and much needed support. But this doesn't seem it will happen, and until i can find something that does replace my p1 i'd be glad to hold onto my old uiq device and maybe the talented modders out there can continue to make good use of it.

If they release the UIQ3 code to the public (open source/GPL) then the possibilities will be endless, and I'm sure lot of programmers will work on it and create exciting new applications and (try to) port UIQ3 to other devices.

I was gonna to say the same. Android is now open source regardless that it is a new OS.

Well UIQ its dead for new devices not for its current users. An example: monday 3 new apps come out one them being the awesome opera 9.5 that its not even finished. I think there is still things to make us happy.

Of course i might look into the 5800 if its really low price (never thought considering a nokia) but i love my p1 to bits.

Finally if they released uiq code as open source it would be really cool
